Hello All

Someone is selling a T-18 with a Dana 20 Tcase in my area,
it needs a rebuild, which I can handle. Says its Jeep fs-j 4.02:1 first gear. Says will fit a J10. I'm not familiar with the J10. Is this the model I need for a CJ7 AMC304? I'm stuck at work, can't research, barely had time to type this out. Any info is greatly appreciated.

currently model 30/ 20 axles. Plan to change anyway if this helps

Okay thanks. I read the article. Not the one.

Good find, but a J (truck) series T-18 has a long input shaft - you will need to change it.

Everything is the same (Dana 20 .) It's a bolt in.

As for the ford T18, they require an adapter plate but do work with a CJ.

Either way you will need new or modified drive shafts.

It's advertised with adapter plates?????? ( I know there are many different set ups). This guy also has a CJ5 for sale. He probably realized the T-18 wasnt the desired one after purchasing it. I dont know. But I feel I should wait and hopefully find the 6.32 gearing.. You agree?

$100 dollars for the set up

If you plan on doing any serious off roading, wait until you find a 6.32. You will be much happier with the granny low. I had a J truck T-18 in a CJ7 . It used a 5" adapter to allow for the long input shaft. Also had a really short rear driveshaft! I have since replaced it with a CJ T18. Picked one up with the 6.32 and a Dana 20 Transfer Case , both in great condition for $500.

I *think* you can use the main shaft and adapter on a Ford T-18 . For $100, It'd be a cheap adapter. But you'll need to do some research to be sure.

Thank you for the replies.

For $100, you would be getting two parts necessary for converting a Ford T-18 to work with the Dana 20 . Those would be the main shaft and the output gear. You will need to purchase an adapter plate, but that should be way less than the cost of a complete kit.

When I did my Ford T18 conversion, I gutted my CJ5 's T18 (4.03 1st) for the main shaft and the output gear. The 'Texas Pattern' adapter plate (cast iron) on the Jeep T18 would not bolt directly to the Ford T18. It's been a while, so I don't recall what or how it didn't match up. I purchased the adapter from Parts Mike. It was the version made by Advance Adapter in aluminum.

The Ford T18 has the 'butterfly' bellhousing bolt pattern. This will work on a Jeep CJ bellhousing for a T-176 . Not certain about working on the T-150 , as I'm not familiar with that one. Since my resto-mod CJ5 has a Ford 5.0L, I used the stock Ford bellhousing. Adapting to an AMC engine will require a special pilot bearing, IIRC.

Hack

I've had a few minutes to look into this conversion. You make a good point. I'm leaning towards purchasing this even if it sits in the mean time. To help fund the conversion I could sale my rebuilt T-150 . Clean up and twin stick the Dana 20 with teralow gears and sale that one. The one I have now is already done that way. After doing it once I could rebuild the d20 in short time. Bead blasting and cleaning/prepping is the worst part.

Thanks for the input.
