Build Thread The '80 FrankenJeep frame off reassembly
LOL - I dunno...... I guess I could swap the striker pin, but that’s like work an stuff......

Then you have a street sweeper :)

Not exactly..... more of a curb feeler. No broom head. I think I’ll stick one on the driver’s side as well..... drive slow and listen for gravel..... then steer the other way

Finally got around to swapping tops.

And all this time it’s been missing something...... So I took care of that as well

They just don’t look right without the tie down hardware. I was toying with swapping the fiberglass hood for a steel due to worries about the windshield stressing the hood - but I’ve decided to glass in a couple reinforcing places and roll with it. Now to strip off top and run to Lowes

And yes - the supports are outboard a bit more than stock - going for a little less flex in the hood.

Picked up some 16 ga steel today. I had already made some small backer plates, but quickly realized they were woefully undersized LOL

Since the supports would be pushing down, those tiny plates would be useless. Made a cardboard template

Cut soy the steel plate, drilled a couple holes

And added a few slight bends so it lies flush against the hood. Once I get em glassed on, they should help distribute the weight.

Once all the glassing is done. I’ll finish the underside of the hood.

You think the glass needed the extra support? My glass hood feels plenty stiff and solid. Does yours have the wood beam glassed in that runs across it near the grill?

This one flexes a bit. The nose feels good and solid - but the back of it near the cowl is a tad bendy. It has a channel running across the rear of the underside about 3” from the edge, but I suspect it’s empty. This may be unnecessary but I’ll feel better....... sound like my wife now.......

Since summer just won’t let go, I figured I’d make use of the “unseasonably warm” day and start the hard top interior cleanup. Wanted to have it bedlined this summer but that ain’t gonna happen - and the Rustoleum is holding up VERY well. Anyway - the window tint on the side windows had chunks missing, so replacing that is on the list.... along with painting the inside.

Today was remove old tint day - man, does that stuff have some awesome glue!! After I got the tint off, I scraped with a razor blade, and in some spots it just made it worse.

I then hit it with 0000 steel wool and Dirtex - THAT took care of it. Also used the steel wool to remove old overspray from the window gaskets. It’s now ready for new tint, but I think I’ll paint first. That brings another item to the surface. The threaded inserts for the rear hatch hinges must have given it up - I have thru bolts. And they have begun to crush the top. I’ll need to glass in a couple compression tubes, then paint .

Here’s the current condition ....

I've kinda settled on a med gray. I don't like the white, black is too dark, and I already have a good bit of gray going on inside already - will go nicely I think.

But I gotta fix the stupid bolt holes first.......
