Build Thread The '80 FrankenJeep frame off reassembly
That’s my next mini project - tearing into the steering column. Started looking around to gather all related parts, which tend to walk away after a couple years off their leash..... couldn’t find the lower support brackets. Dug around in a spares box the PO sent with the Jeep - and there was another set. Happy day. Also dug up an ignition switch - appears to be unused.....

Old one....

We’re having a nice warm weekend here - so I switched gears and am trying to get prepped for bed lining the tub. Found a few holes that someone drilled that I should weld up, but not feelin it. I’ll just run a short bolt thru it and nut the other side. The part that’s gonna kick my butt is around the Transmission tunnel opening. The ‘cover plate” was two parts and around the edge of the opening is a hard, tar like sealant. The cover plate(s) weren’t stuck down with it, but it’s a biatch to get off.

T177. Supposed to be a T-176 but the tag says otherwise..... I can only imagine where it came from.....

I thought that’s pretty neat

Very interesting..... just came in from the garage and sat down, read that linked post, and now I'm not sure if I should be glad I have a T177 or just not care LOL. Sounds like I may have a slightly lower first gear, so that's good. When I checked the tag number, I was surprised to see it wasn't a T-176 , but having hung around here for a few years, I shouldn't be surprised at all LOL.

On another note - got the tub scuffed for liner tonight.

I know the kit comes with a scuff pad, but I went ahead and hit it real good with a cup brush ( or whatever they're supposed to be called) I had spots of factory paint, primer, what appeared to be rattle can paint..... So I figured if I hit it hard with a wire brush if it stuck after that it's sound. Best part about working in my garage is the Jeep sits right under the opener - so the light from the opener is perfect. Didn't have the other light on, I opened the door to get something out of the car, closed the door when I came back, crawled back up in the Jeep, and bammo, out goes the dang light. Phone's on the toolbox, light switch is 10' away, and it's dark as hell. I'd rather walk thru a mine field than move around in my garage in the dark - I got lucky and made it to the switch LOL.

By the way - I just noticed I had a pair of safety glasses in the pic...... didn't want anyone to get the idea that I was actually wearing them. Didn't think about till I finished and saw em lying there...

I am a big proponent of wearing facial protection. I know you were not cutting, but when you do, please wear a face shield. I was wearing only eye protection when a cutting disc broke

Oh, man - that makes me hurt just lookin at it.....

I wasn’t wearing the glasses cause I had the wheel running slow - but always wear glasses otherwise. After this I’m buying a shield. I do make a point of keeping the “ rotational disc of egress” well away from me, but that may not be sufficient.

And I see I’m not the only one who documents injuries for future reference.

Wow you were really lucky in a way there. I don't think at the time you probably didn't feel that way. I worked with an engineer several years back who had been working at a machine shop many years before that and someone had been grinding on something and the wheel came apart and flew a couple hundred feet in the air and put his eye out. Glad you are ok now. I remember seeing that picture a while back Just remember scars give you character. I've got a few also. Proof we lived and learned something and help others along the road of life with knowledge!

It felt like I got punched in the nose. My eye wear got a gouge in the edge of the lens so it would have been worse. But anytime I use the grinder or cutting wheel, i put on the face shield now.

We have 2 pairs of safety eyewear that have been saved at work because they worked. 1 has hot tar that was slashed on it. The other has a small hunch of metal stuck into it. That stuff works

Yes it does - I’ve had a couple pairs of glasses do their jobs, but the aftermath wasn’t worth saving....
