Trans/axle oil change help

Hi guys I'm about to change the Transmission /Transfer Case and axle oil on my 78 CJ5 . I've never down this before on this jeep and need some advice on procedure and oil to use. I've heard that I should use gl4 gear oil. What weight oil?

For Transmission and Transfer Case are the oil galleys connected or are the Transmission and Transfer Case separate compartments? I have the T-18 Transmission and the Dana 20 Transfer Case . Also where is the fillup hole?

There are two different locations for the fill plug on the Dana 20 . They are circled in red here:

Here you can see the T-18 drain plug on the bottom of the Transmission and the fill on the side by the pto plate :

I would recommend that you purchase a FSM or a service manual from your local part store.

The T-18 does not share fluid with the Dana 20 . There is no need to use GL4, I used GL4 for years in my T-18 but the GL5 has improved to a point where I'm comfortable using it. If you feel a need to use GL4 Napa carries the sta-lube brand. The best and easyiest way to fill your tranny, Transfer Case , and diffs is with a hand pump. They can be purchase locally or online. The one I have is a pump and lid that I install over a 5 gallon bucket of 80-90 weight gear fluid.
