I have a 83 CJ5 that had a straight 6 in it with a 4 speed tranny. I pulled a AMC 304 , tranny, and Transfer Case out of a 77 CJ7 . I rebuilt a AMC 304 and a T-150 3 speed tranny and dropped it in the 83. Motor and tranny are working perfectly but the Transfer Case (that was mated to the T-150 ) now keeps popping out of gear between 50 to 60 MPH. I have adjusted the linkage in every manner possible, I have clocked the rear end as well. I bought new heavy duty drive shafts. The Transfer Case was working perfectly before this swap.
I don't know what the rear end is geared at but could that cause the Transfer Case to pop out of gear if it is geared to high to handle the V8?
I am about to swap rear ends out but I don't know if this is a waste of time or not...its the only think left from the CJ7 . ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEAS???
