I have a 83 CJ5 that had a straight 6 in it with a 4 speed tranny. I pulled a AMC 304 , tranny, and Transfer Case out of a 77 CJ7 . I rebuilt a 304 and a T-150 3 speed tranny and dropped it in the 83. Motor and tranny are working perfectly but the transfer case (that was mated to the T150) now keeps popping out of gear between 50 to 60 MPH. I have adjusted the linkage in every manner possible, I have clocked the rear end as well. I bought new heavy duty drive shafts. The Transfer case was working perfectly before this swap.
I don't know what the rear end is geared at but could that cause the transfer case to pop out of gear if it is geared to high to handle the V8?
I am about to swap rear ends out but I don't know if this is a waste of time or not...its the only think left from the CJ-7. ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEAS???
