I have a SR4 jumping out of second gear. I plan to kept the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I know where a SM465 is mated to a 205. I also found a T-150 mated Dana 20 . What is the best route and it does not have to be the choices I mentioned.

What tire size and gear ratio? What type of driving do you do? What model CJ?

Most likely, neither of those are very good options for you. The long adapter and huge NP205 aren't a good fit in most CJs. Plus, you'd have to adapt the engine to Transmission .

Unless you've regear from the stock 2.72/3.31s you likely have, the T-150 is going to be geared way too high. If you have regeared, then lose a lot of what you gained.

Generally, I would say the best route is a T177. If you've got a CJ7 or 8, then an AX15 or NV3550 5 speed would both be good options. Or even an NSG370 6 speed from a TJ. To really take advantage of the O/D transmissions, you would eventually need to regear accordingly.

If you want a granny gear then I'd lean towards the NP435. but you'd be going to a 3 speed for the street. A 5:1 T19 would be a good compromise if you don't want to swap axle gears.

A 176/177 would be the simplest route. I have a 5-1 T19 and love it, but a bit more work and $$$ to make it work.

thanks guys. My Jeep is stock suspension 235/75/15 tires. 81 CJ7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . Currently has SR4 .
