Dropped my Jeep off at an old-school differential / Transmission shop to have my gears swapped out. Putting 3.54's in, should make a nice difference...:D

I did them last time, and while it was a fun learning experience - I'm up against the calendar now so I'll leave it to them...gladly...

Those bolts tend to loosen a bit with wheeling.

I put stage 8 locking hub bolts in to not have to tighten...

Thanks. I will look into that.

And my clunking noise was still there on the commute in this morning. Grrr. Still need to find it.

Clunks usually come from a bad U-joint.

The OEM Warn hubs loosen up because of the junk Zinc metal that was used to make'em.
Top quality hubs like MileMarker don't have this issue.
Look at a stud kit also.

To add- since the hubs are that loose. You should go in and clean and repack the wheel and spindle bearings because of road dirt contamination.

Almost done finishing what the PO left undone on a clutch job.At least I think that is what they where doing. Typical stuff done by the inexperienced or not trained . Lucky that I had a half dozen panel nuts from last project for Transmission . cover.Made a brass bushing for O-Drive shifter.Possibly had a shoulder bolt ,but that's long gone.As soon as I get the NS 20 backup light switch it will be back together.Backup light switch was damaged on clutch job. All in all things are still looking very original and no major stuff. Oh ya ,the spacer plates between the frame and x-member were gone.Had two and made two so that's done. They didn't bother to reinstall the skidplate so i'm on the look out for a used one. mike

Jr, what you posted were premium warn hubs those were not offered on stock CJ's from the factory.
Warn base model hubs were offered from the factory (what gr8dain has).
I believe this is want LG is referring to.

Those black hubs were made by Warn.
In the 60's to mid 70's, the hubs were made by Selectro(sp)I don't recall what years. Mile Marker now makes those as well.
MM hubs are all steel and worth every dime. No plastic what so ever.

The hubs in your picture are the premium Warn's and much better material was used. Warn never made the premium hubs for our 27 spline/5 bolt hubs.

LG, as you know I am a early cj guy ,1971 and earlier. As far as the O.E.M. front hubs go what years did jeep offer them as oem equip. ? or was it dealer installed as authorized jeep acceseries?. Not doubting just asking so I will know.
Thanks for helping. mike

Not sure if it was a dealer install or not back then. Soft tops and such were dealer installs.
I do believe that 71 Jeeps came with the Selctro hubs and Warn's came later in the 70's.
Don't take this to the bank........;)
LG

The early 5's came from the factory with drive flanges. aftermarket hubs were dealer add-ons.

^^^ Oh, next time I'll remember to throw a 6"X1" bolt in my trail tool box to remove the cap on a CTM joint.
