What did you do to or with your CJ today?

I went to investigate a noise/clunking sound that has been getting more frequent over the past couple of days. Found what I think is the culprit. The hub had gotten very loose. So I tightened it back up. I hope that was it.

Those bolts tend to loosen a bit with wheeling.
I put stage 8 locking hub bolts in to not have to tighten...
The OEM Warn hubs loosen up because of the junk Zinc metal that was used to make'em.
Top quality hubs like MileMarker don't have this issue.
Look at a stud kit also.

Clunks usually come from a bad U-joint.
To add- since the hubs are that loose. You should go in and clean and repack the wheel and spindle bearings because of road dirt contamination.

Wait a minute - not trying to argue, but Warn hubs were not OEM were they? At least not the ones I've seen from 72 - 74 CJ5's... Unless Warn made their OEM hubs and a higher quality replacment too?
And Miles marker "used" to be the cheaper brand right? They had plastic turn knobs before right? looks like they have some higher quality now though from my google search
His don't appear to be WARN hubs -![]()
Unless you were refering to why my Uncle's and my WARN hubs were coming loose... In which case, I'll look into it a bit more, though my stage 8 locking bolts have done the trick for me...
Again - correct me if I'm wrong, not my intention to argue...

LG, as you know I am a early cj guy ,1971 and earlier. As far as the O.E.M. front hubs go what years did jeep offer them as oem equip. ? or was it dealer installed as authorized jeep acceseries?. Not doubting just asking so I will know. Those black hubs were made by Warn.
In the 60's to mid 70's, the hubs were made by Selectro(sp)I don't recall what years. Mile Marker now makes those as well.
MM hubs are all steel and worth every dime. No plastic what so ever.

The hubs in your picture are the premium Warn's and much better material was used. Warn never made the premium hubs for our 27 spline/5 bolt hubs.
