Today was productive, even the weather was beautiful. Put the nose back on the CJ, wife was happy. All is good in the world!
Learned that the OMIX power booster is :dung:, spacing for the master cylinder is METRIC, about 2.32" NO American made MC will fit. Bought a rebuilt Cardone (USA) unit, fits fine.

Do you know if this Cardone booster be used to upgrade if your CJ doesn't have power brakes?

Hi;
No, our Jeep had PB originally, this unit is simply a rebuild OEM unit. I got it from ROCK AUTO by the way. If you are upgrading, you'll need the bracket assembly that goes between the firewall and the booster. It consists of 2 plates with a lever and 2 arms, one goes to the pedal, the other is a fulcrum type lever that pivots between the booster rod and the top of the bracket.

Green-Next time your friends Jeep acts like that. Pinch off the fuel return line from the fuel filter.

Thanks Lumpy, would have done that to, but did not bring any tools! I know, that is always when "stuff happens " haha. I almost always take my tools in all my vehicles. Took them out this time because I wanted to go to the car wash afterwards and did not want to take out my tools and forget them after washing out the interior of the CJ.

Had a similar episode Sunday. Once I got on level ground and let her sit a while she was good to go. Sure makes a good case for fuel injection.

I had anticipated a deadly backbreaking ride with the short wheel base and leaf springs, but she did better than expected. (better than my old F-250) Not comfy by any means, I just had expected to die a horrible painful death. I also took things slow and easy. I know that coilovers would be much softer riding, so I still want to do the changeover.

daddyusmaximus, I have a AMC 401, with a Offenhauser carb. Did you know Offenhauser has a great off-road float and carb. kit for their carbs? My friend wheeling with me also has an Offy carb. on his AMC 304 . He had problems I did not!

This Jeep has a Dodge 360 out of a truck, and a Holley carb that probably would be better on a drag racer.

I didn't know iffy made carbs big enough to work on V8s, edelbrock makes a great carb that is easy to tune and work on

As soon as I can save enough money up for the axle shafts and bearings I will be able to weld on my spring pads and caliper mounts and the axle will be road worthy, now it's time to get the front narrowed

A Jeep is like a woman! All winter nobody could care less about you, but the second the sun comes out and you take that top off, everybody wants to be your friend. :D

Captainlance - is that your Checker in the background?

And to make this CJ related.... how are you going to route your exhaust from the header and clear the slave cyl.?

Hi;
Yes, that is one of our Checkers, also have an 72 NYC taxicab and 9 other cars in the collection. I ran the exhaust from the headers (Hedman) under the slave cylinder, clears about 2-3 inches. if that is not sufficient to prevent heat percolation, I'll wrap the pipe with header wrap. I've used it on muscle cars with great success.

Just drove my CJ5 4 hours to the Carolina Beach. First serious road trip i've done in my Jeep. You could tell it didn't like to be above 65mph. Nothing like getting passed by everything on the road. I think there was a school bus that was slower then me. :D It never overheated, but it was getting into the 220+ range. I pulled over every couple hours to let her cool down, and to give myself a break. Driving a old CJ on the highway takes a lot out of ya! ;)
