What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Just replaced the rear brake shoes on my CJ last night. I hate drum brakes. After years of struggling I finally picked up the little hook tool for pulling on those darned springs. Made the job a lot easier. But still .......

Man I bought those tools years ago, I don't even remember where they are anymore I hate drums as well

I used to have an old pick with a tip that I bent to do the job, but have not seen it in years. So I broke down and bought the tool. Now I will probably find the old pick.

Now you are going to have to put a 2"x 2" plate under the tub to hold it in "when the hits the fan." :D

ABSOLUTELY!!

Cut my rear shackles down to 4.5" to the outside of the bolt holes. Trying to decide if I can fit my tires if go back to a stock length shackle with 4" SUA.

Then I unbolted my rear axle to move it back 1" using the holes in the spring perch. I found that the axles PO welded one of the perches on backwards! I think I will drill a new hole in the backwards perch instead of cutting it off and welding a new one.

As you can see the rear tire needs to be centered into the larger/longer wheel well. (Please ignore the mile of air hose under the CJ.)

Very cool, those are some beefy shackles I also like your rims those look sweet and a cool looking project you have going

Rebuilt my 2G carb

I found the power valve mostly plugged along with one jet.
Below is what I cleaned out from the power valve seat.

So that explain the poor performance, and lack of power.

I also found the vacuum port for the PCV 90% blocked when the PO mistakenly installed the wrong gasket and covered the port. I removed a piece of the gasket for viewing.

So that explains the timing cover leak.

Do you have wider "YJ" springs or regular CJ?

Just in case - YJ springs are directional - the "center eye" is not centered... At least on OME YJ spring swaps. If they're backwards, the rear tires move 2" towards middle of the jeep...

Not positive on stock CJ springs - didn't pay much attention to that...

Thanks, I found some rock rings for the wheels that I might buy. The wheels were discontinued so I'm having an issue finding a 5th wheel for a matching spare. I need to start a build thread so I can document the whole process like you are doing.

The CJ springs for my year should be the same as the YJ but I'm not 100% on that. I'll check and see if Center pin is offset. Thanks!

Dude I owe you a beer in Colorado! According to the info I had found on the CJ & YJ springs the center pin should have been even. Then again I have the cheap sky jacker lift springs that I bought 14 years ago. The center pin was exactly 1" offset towards the middle of the jeep. I flipped the shim and springs around and it looks like the tire is centered. Here is an after pic doing a little garage flexing.

I like that color can you get that from parts store? I'm not a big fan of the ones that come out looking like chrome, Eastwood makes a color called alumiblast that's awesome and their cast grey looks great to I painted my Transfer Case that color, stuff is high dollar tho
