What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Swapped out a wheel bearing on the driver side front. Went well. On the pass side, the upper caliper bolt was stripped, so could not do that one. Good thing was that the majority of the shake I had at 55+ mph is now gone. So that is good. I bet the rest would go if I could get the other bearing swapped. There is a little play in that wheel. Grrrr

Went on a Poker Run with the Renegade today.Spring weather and lots of classic cars. Jeep worked great so I guess i'm making progress.Didn't do to well on the poker hand, maybe next year. mike

Got my CJ out and ran it down the Interstate a good 2hrs with the kids to pickup a vehicle - flat towed the Jeep back. Ran great. Looks like that's the last run for the carb setup though, plan to start the EFI work his week or next...

I wanted to do the Mopar/Hesco but looks like I'm to late for that

Worked on my skid plate a bid - beat it straight with a 10lb sledge and we welded more supports to it (didn't take finished photos yet - but these show you how much use mine gets in the rocks, and why I built a custom one out of thick steel... Added some gussets and a angle lip on the rear.

Also finished the wiring to the marker lights on new front fenders, and installed bump stop extensions to help the tires stay out of the body a bit more... not sure now if needed with new fenders, but will test them out a bit.

Lol your neighbors must love you with angle grinder work outside in the driveway, how does the skid plate hold up versus a tube steel set up? I was going to build a tube steel frame for mine but wondering if a steel plate like yours would be easier, I'm jealous on the half doors I can't wait til I get some for mine, I have been hitting everything that I am working on with krylon trying to get mine on the road.

I think you meant to quote me - lol

We're always grinding and welding around there... Better than the gunshots and police helicopters in the evenings... :D

Now I was a little worried when 9AM on Saturday we were smacking the skidplate with the 10lb sledge in the driveway... I thought we were going to hear "close" gun shots... lol

I like the solid for me as there are a lot of pointy rocks on the Rubicon. Not always big, so potentially able to stick through the tube design.

That said, my solid is a beast to remove and install - a two man job.

Heavy, so little more stress on suspension etc, but also close to ground so like a anti rollover counterweight lol

I do plan to incorporate a tube loop or something forward under the oil pan, as it's seen its share of rocks...

Try SEM Color Coat for the door panel. Made for plastic and vinyl. Used it on mine (satin black) came out well. Was still a little too shiney for me so covered with SEM low luster clear. Mine were originally gray.

Trick to painting plastic and vinyl is to make sure you clean it 2 or 3 times. Get some TSP at the hardware store or Home Depot. You would be surprised at how the plastic soaks up oil and dirt.

Thin light coats multiple times so it doesn't fill in the "grain" on the panel.

BTW, if you have keys for the doors keep them or get a set. Then when re- assembling, don't hook up the inside door lock switch. You can then lock them with the key, but not unlock from inside. If you can't unlock the half doors, you can't get them off to steal. :D

Lol poop, as many times as I've seen shum8s profile pic I should have known it's his half door lol, yes I meant to quote you JR I keep thinking about how to keep a skid plate as close to the Transmission as possible but not sure how to do a Transmission mount with the Dana 300 in the way of the tubes, I think I might make a skid like yours so it's easier to do the Transmission mount and keep everything up tight, thought about some bolt holes in the skid and a adapter plate with a pin to fit your jack so you don't have to lift it by hand?

Are they not selling that anymore?

From what I have read you can't get the complete kits anymore. What was used for the computer came from the 91-95 YJs and those are pretty much gone. Parts are still available. I've heard there are a few for auto Transmission still out there. I guess there might be a few that are out there but real pricy now. a few people that have the system are going to pic and pulls and gathering up the computers. One of the guys on the Scrambler forum that lives about an hour from me actually bought the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l engine and engine stand from HESCO because they don't need it anymore for testing. So it sounds like they are done
