Today I finally got the Transmission tc combo bolted back in.
Now all I need to do is install the shifters, attach the driveshafts, bolt on the belly pan, fill all the fluids, triple check all the bolts and I'll be back on the road.

Today I filled the engine and Transfer Case with oil, attached the driveshafts, bolted on the skid plate and Transmission mount....
Still need to fill the Transmission with the correct oil, attach the shifter, bolt on the tranny tunnel cover and shifter boots, hook up the battery and go for a test ride shakedown run to make sure I did everything right.

Fabricated a little extension bar for my throttle linkage on the Sniper efi I recently installed. I was having issues with a sharp jolting reaction when initially pressing the accelerator. By adding the extension, it raises the point that the cable attaches to the throttle linkage and provides just enough leverage. Took it on a quick test ride and it is so much smoother now. Very happy with it.

Don’t you love it when a plan works??

We actually had a day with no rain today, so I gave the ol girl a proper bath...... took a pic for this post, and realized it appears to be a TJ

So I adjusted my angle and got rid of the reflection from the garage....

Beautiful day so my daughter and I took a short ride over to the airport and watched the big planes takeoff and land for a little while, then drove around the new terminal that is just about finished being built for a billion dollars. :(

I wanted to take my doors off for my drive around today. Settled with just taking the soft uppers out. Waiting for the next round of snow now. Mother nature has been cruel recently.

Everything came off today except the metal 1/2 doors, it was probably 75. Even the flowers on the tomato plants are out. Winter is probably over, but it has been a strange one, who knows?

Ok, so I snuck over to Walmart and on the way back to the house, I asked the CJ if she wanted to go get ice cream........ she said she’d rather stop for a drink.......

Got the driver side manifold installed yesterday and the passenger side today. Just need to cut off the anti wrap bar bracket and it'll be ready for the exhaust shop.

Got my CJ back from the exhaust shop with the new Flowmaster Cat and Flowmaster 44 installed. I now no longer reek of gas when running and I have the say the 44 has a nice deep satisfying sound to it. Now I just have to wait on the bill.

I had the cat installed because there was not one on it but all the specs for an 81 said one should be on there. The experiment as to how that affects mileage begins today, I have been getting around 17.5 MPG lately.

Interested to hear if there's any fuel mileage change with the cat. I'm about to ditch my sidepipes for a single exhaust on my 360. No cat for now, but may add one later if exhaust smell is still bad.

I will let you know. I religiously track my mileage and am one of those guys that tries to eke the best mileage out of my vehicles without affecting performance. One thing I have notice already with the new exhaust setup is I seem to have more high-end power. As in, it doesn't seem to struggle as much maintaining highway speeds and doesn't seem to bog down as much going uphill. I wonder if that has to do with the flowmaster exhaust being less restrictive of exhaust flow than my old setup.

As I recall from my hotrod days, more backpressure means more low end power and less backpressure means more high end power.

Scout, are you sure the specs for that 81 with a cat were not just for the California model?

My first CJ was an 81 and it had a cat..... and I'm east coast...... I remember that because at some point I needed a new muffler, and the dude at the shop asked if I wanted the cat gutted before he put the new muffler in place. Always struck me as rather gutsy / stupid as he didn't know me at all......

According to everything I found 81 was the first year for a cat in all CJs, they had them in Cali models starting in 79.

I’ve been sittin on a couple stickers I cut for the Jeep for several months trying to decide if I was gonna like em or not - decided I wouldn’t know till I stuck em on there......

Bugs me that they flags are not in the same position but the antenna base screwed me up - had to shift it. Good news is, very few folks will be able to see both sides at the same time, so not many will pay much attention.

Heck, I am impressed that the field of stars on the stickers faces correctly on both sides. Don't know if you are a vet but I do know that most people don't know the proper way to display flags. I couldn't count the number of civilians that told us that the flags on our uniforms were incorrect back in the 90's when we started wearing them on BDU's. We wore the flag patch on our right sleeve and the blue field was on the right so lots and lots of people told us the field was supposed to be on the left until they had it explained to them.

Interesting, my 79 must have been a Cali model then. It was bought in Colorado Springs from the dealer. We cut the clogged up factory cat off and had a new exhaust put on back in December. Runs amazing.
