What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Today I spent 5 hours removing my oil pan as part of a rear main seal job. Got caught on the passenger motor mount which made it take that long.
Tomorrow I hope to actually get the rms replaced and pressure wash the oil pan in prep for reinstallation.
Once this is done in going to disconnect the driveshaft and drop the belly pan, Transmission , and tc so I can tackle the new luk clutch and flywheel (the actuall problem which led to my jeep being out of commission).
I anticipate being done in a few weeks!

Added a better throttle return bracket for my Gronk carb.
Went to fix a leaking PS hose and ended up taking the radiator out to get at it. While I am at it I am fixing/cleaning/painting before putting it back together.

Over the weekend...Friday - pulled rear driveshaft and tcase rear output & got the rear pinion carrier bolted back in and sealed up.

Yesterday - fixed endplay on my rear tcase output (not sure what I did, but it had too much after last year's rebuild/gear swap) and reinstalled. pulled the front output shims and resealed (been leaking since I put it back together). Got the yoke put back on my DOM rear driveshaft and reinstalled it. Getting close to being back on the road! Just need to move my anti wrap bar to the passenger side to make room for the exhaust, then get the broken studs removed from the passenger side manifold, and run exhaust (probably taking to exhaust shop for that).

Replaced all of my clutch linkage.
I've noticed since I purchased it that the clutch pedal wouldn't go all the way to the top, I would have to nudge it up that last inch or so with my foot. I thought it was the overcenter spring that was weak and have read that it was a PITA to replace.
Once I crawled under to check everything out I noticed that the clutch return spring was missing and the linkage was worn out.
Of course all the nuts and bolts were rusted and frozen in place. Lots of PB Blaster and some heat got everything loosened up.
Once I got everything torn out replacing the new stuff was a piece of cake. I now have a full clutch pedal.
Next is to put new seals on the output shafts on the Transfer Case . Not looking forward to unbolting the drive shafts and dropping the skid plate I know those bolts are going to be a bear.

Today I disconnected the driveshafts, removed the shifters, dropped the belly pan, Transmission , and Transfer Case . Getting close to being able to do the clutch job.....

Started making some of the greasable shackle bolts for the YJ spring conversion.

I have to make another set out of 9/16" bolts which I don't have yet. I'll try to take some pictures of how I did it. All I used was a drill press and a vice.

I bought parts!!!!

4-row aluminum radiator is on the way. I plan to move back to Texas someday and do a lot of desert driving so why not just do it now since the current stocker has a leak? 40 years is long enough, it's paid it's dues.

T-176 and Dana 300 purchased from an ebay seller in Tennessee. Can't wait to get the T-150 out of there. I feel at home with a 4-speed!

...and like everyday, more planning on the next parts... springs, brake lines, axles, etc.. etc..

Beautiful sunny day today and in low 70s. Drove around and did some errands and just enjoyed the great jeep with no top on.

Ok - So I run over to Walmart for fuel (I know, but it's the closest ethanol free gas) and as I'm filling her up, this young dude walks over, and asks "Hey, man - What year is your Wrangler?" I said "Say what?" He goes "What is that, about an 86? I told him it was a CJ - and he never even blinked. I said "It's where Wranglers came from". Oooohh, he said - and walked of......

I just shook my head......

It was the bottle opener in the back that that threw him off.

I had a dude pull up behind me at a 7-11 gas station in his brand new bright purple mall crawler (temp tags and all) a couple months ago and he asked me, "Hey man, what year is your YJ?" After swallowing the vomit in my mouth, I politely answered, "My CJ is a '76." The look on his face was priceless...a sad mixture of confusion and embarrassment.

I was nice though...I invited him to our local Jeep club coffee run, but never saw him again.

People are funny.
