What did you do to or with your CJ today?
So yesterday when I was out wheeling I felt some play in the steering that eventually became worse.

PO attempted fix

I’ll replace the inside bracket as I have an extra one. It has a steering brace but doesn’t help much with a butchered up bracket.

Your missing the one item that makes the upgrade work. You need a ford coil or msd blaster coil to go with the wires, cap, and rotor.

Hope this helps

Edit: mtnwhir beat me to it.

I never could find the coil JeepHammer recommended (MSD Blaster 2F, p/n 8205). I replaced the coil with an Advanced Auto Parts equivalent.

I'm now considering the MSD 8227. Will have to fabricate a bracket.

Copied directly from JeepHammers post:

"YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CHANGE COILS!

The Factory canister coils is perfectly fine for 99% of the I-6 engines this is going to be used on,
And if you switch coils,
I suggest you use an MSD Blaster 2F, p/n 8205

Fits right in your stock bracket, connects directly to your factory harness and works better than the orignal from the factory.

Keep in mind that most of you have a 25+ year old coil in your vehicles!
This might be a good time to retire it for something a little better and a BUNCH NEWER!"

I think I got mine from Autozone.

Not available... hasn't been for a long time.
I don’t see the problem, so many options.

There you go^^^, or pay $25 for a new ford coil no different then msd $50 coil. Grab it from the bone yard for free to $5 with the bracket. Many options.

I have been trying to diagnose a whistling sound for a while so today I replaced the EGR valve. The old one was foul to point that it didn't move. I am still waiting on new vacuum line to arrive and I plan on replacing all the lines. If not I will start replacing other components until figure it out.

(yesterday)

starter wouldn't turn yesterday morning. This is occasionally an issue dating back to last year...but usually fires up on second or third turn. I figured the starter was done. But upon checking wires decided to give everything a good cleaning on the solenoid and starter. I think that was the probable issue. Also took doors and back windshield off. Finally got above 60 yesterday!

Run your battery GND(-)lead to the top mounting bolt of the starter motor.

Moved ground to starter bolt, added MSD 2 coil (w/ballast resistor). Drove around town, startup seemed perkier but will give full report after a cold start. Looking forward to seeing if I get some improved performance on the HW too.

Good to hear,
If you don't mind me asking where did you install the BR and for what reason?

Playing it safe, the instructions said to install one on the (+) wire for the Blaster 2 if using the a stock ignition control. I mounted it on a small mounting hole located on the coil bracket. I read some stuff about the stock red wire on the jeep itself being a resistor but wanted to play it safe. Read a few stories of people coils exploding or getting hot. My ignition control is new so not ready to replace with the MSD 6 just yet.

You can leave it on if you prefer.
However, it shouldn’t be on there
The coil will be less effective
I’m willing to bet if you call msd they will tell you to remove it or basically say what I just posted.

Well the instructions from MSD said specifically for it to be on there or "SERIOUS INJURY COULD OCCUR" so I highly doubt they are going to tell me that on the phone...

I try to follow instructions as I don't like pissing away my money when things fail...

And the Ballast Resistor is an MSD product. So you think they will take it back? You don't really give it a rest with the "tips." Sometimes advice can come across like an a**hole you know...nobody likes a know it all bud

When you talk like this to someone trying to help you you will get a lot less people willing to try and help you.

huntnCJfool, if you quote me expect a reply. If you don't want a reply from me DON'T quote me. Good luck with your duel BR setup.
