What did you do to or with your CJ today?
I would say no - with a caveat. If the hub is worn where the bearing lives, then yes. If the splines are boogered up on the axles, then yes. Otherwise, no way. If the hubs and axles are good, I’d keep em. If you replace em, and stay away from the Chinese :dung: ones, you’re left with used OEM, which is what you already have. As long as the wear and slop is just in the bearings, fresh bearings will fix you up.

Just my two cents - let’s see what the intelligent ones think LOL

Ok - it got above 70 today. That can only mean 90+days are soon to follow. IS IT FALL YET???
The axle shafts themselves looked good, heck almost new. I didn't see any burring or excessive wear on the splines. Just the bearings are starting to look a little rough. I replaced the spindle bearings while I was in there but the hub bearings themselves looked kind of worn.

Scout,
The stock 30 shafts hold up well unless you put some air under the tires wheeling. The spline twist then at some point break. I would suggest inspecting the axle shaft u- joints. Also the spindles where the bearings ride. If you need spindles I can send you a set.

Today I upgraded the Holley Sniper handheld unit and ECU firmware. We need to roll some miles and take some logs on the Sniper. It runs well, but runs too rich. Part of why we run as gunner on the trail rides.

What upgrade? Is there a new release? Or did you need to i stall a new tune on it? I installed my sniper in January. Took a few little tweaks to get it running smoothly. But it is running a bit rich still.

I believe the target AFR is 14.7. I think I set mine to 13.6 or 8.

I checked the Holley website for updates, and there were some for us. Take the SD card out and install in your computer and verify what versions you have. There is link on the site with the most updated SD card contents. And a u tube showing how to update everything. I actually wrote out a procedure based on the video. Even if you just purchased your Sniper, it may not have the most updated files. Either way, you should know how to update as there be more in the future. If you have trouble finding these files, pm me your email and I will send you the links.

Thanks. I will check for updates. I hope it doesn’t lose the tweaks I have made.

Just save your config on the dash unit and you have no worries.

As part of the update procedure, you should save your config file and give it a name that makes sense to you. Save that to your computer before you wipe the sd card, install the new contents from the Holley site and then copy your config file back to the sd card in the saved configs folder. That way you won't lose your tuning efforts.

Took the CJ a couple of towns over to do some grocery shopping. Reminiscing about all the rocks, stumps, steel cables, and every other obstacle this Jeep has conquered in the past several years, and the trips we will be taking this year. Got home, parked it in the shop, started to get some things ready for the trip. Walked around the back.............FLAT TIRE! done in by a trip to a country market!

Trying to get ready for paint. Took the fender flares off and figured it would be easier if I took the tires off. I would like to give whoever tightened the lug nuts up a piece of my mind. Busted two sockets using a breaker bar with a cheater trying to get them off. Finally got them off with an impact wrench. Thank goodness I didn't have a flat out in the boonies.
Anywho, got the flares off, fixed a couple of small rust spots and did some sanding.
I won't be putting on any paint until the air clears up some, tree pollen is really bad this time of year and I plan on doing it outside with a makeshift paint booth. It won't look anywhere near factory although the body is pretty much rust free it does have a lot of dings and creases.

After repairing my PS bracket it was time to upgrade my tie rod and drag link.
I typically just buy tube, inserts, and ends for the upgrade or modify a used ½ ton or 1 ton set.
While searching for parts I came across this
https://www.quadratec.com/products/...f1TmDR85dPzmM3ghDqcPHRpcPyNqH91waAsWhEALw_wcB
The set looked good, but more then I was willing to pay. I found them on amazon for $250 and a option to buy used for $AMC 150 .
The used set was actually new with cosmetic defects. After looking at the reviews I notice a lot of new purchases were missing hardware (zerk fitting/ cotter pins) when they arrived. If I were to make my own the 3 rod ends would cost me $AMC 150 so I took a chance. Also fittings and pins are cheap.
The description states new with cosmetic damage and damaged box. When it arrived the box was in perfect shape and the only thing I could find were 2 very small scuff marks. All the hardware arrived as well.
Those 2 scuffs were the only thing I could find.

I’m not saying this is how all the used sets come but certainly worth buying to save $100 even if you have to repaint and buy hardware IMO.

I set toe-in and a test drive, worked as it should.

Nice find, I have the same set. I also did the tierod flip before I installed them. They seem to be well constructed for RR.

I was planning to make a front bumper to replace the stock one. I had a bumper in my parts loft so I installed it.

I like the bumper but not sure I like it on the 3B.......

Thanks, it is a good bumper. I'm trying to like it on my 3B but I'm having a hard time feeling it. The lines seem too up to date, maybe it will grow on me.

If it doesn't I'll just make one.

Some progress on the new 360 build for the CJ5

More in the build thread.

Hoping to hear her run for the first time later this week. Waiting on special header bolts and gaskets...

The heads on this one are apparently all 3/8" thread - the old ones were mixed with smaller in all but the outer holes. The standard 3/8" size bolts I have everywhere have too large of a head on them to fit the tight spacing between holes and tubes on the Hooker headers... So waiting on Amazon there.

Have some clean up and other stuff to do still while I wait.

What do you all think?
