What did you do to or with your CJ today?

What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Well the instructions from MSD said specifically for it to be on there or "SERIOUS INJURY COULD OCCUR" so I highly doubt they are going to tell me that on the phone...

I try to follow instructions as I don't like pissing away my money when things fail...

And the Ballast Resistor is an MSD product. So you think they will take it back? You don't really give it a rest with the "tips." Sometimes advice can come across like an a**hole you know...nobody likes a know it all bud
I bet you were also the guy that said if the Drill Sergeant ever got in your face you would beat the DS up right? Posi is giving you advice, you can take it or leave it. To slam him and play stump the chump is at best a d*(& move and at worst an a*&H)#e move. Nothing says you have to listen but to insult someone trying to be helpful is one of the least effective things you can do. It is almost a guaranteed way to ensure no-one tries to be helpful in the future. They probably didn't teach you that in school though did they?

I love know it alls here! There's plenty of folks here that actually do. And I'm glad they're here to help us all out.

On a lighter note, I took my Scrambler wheeling today. Having a blast.
^^This guy right here^^ sadly, or maybe not, I spent all day in the shop doing ball joints.

When you talk like this to someone trying to help you you will get a lot less people willing to try and help you.

That is kind of my point...I was not asking for help I was posting in the "what have you done to your CJ today"

Agree with everyone else. Posi is about the most knowledgeable Jeep guy that I know, and has helped me and many others many times. If you don't like what someone says, just ignore it. The best thing about this forum is that we don't slam, flame, chastise, or otherwise insult other members.

huntnCJfool, if you quote me expect a reply. If you don't want a reply from me DON'T quote me. Good luck with your duel BR setup.

You asked a question and I answered. You responded with a reply with no further explanation than "you don't need that, and the manufacturer will tell you you don't need that" even though the manufacturer instructions said you specifically do need that part for a stock ignition control.

Thats great and wonderful and appreciated by all, I just like having explanations and not being told what to do

lol...you seem triggered

If you follow this thread, I have been working on this Team Rush upgrade for a couple of weeks. Posi has been nice enough, but everything he has said has been "oh you need to do this to get it to work right." At some point I suppose I got annoyed. Sorry I ruffled everyone's feathers. I will just ignore next time.

Not to change the subject, but........

I have had it the back of my mind to swap my AMC 304 out for a 360 at some point in the future, and go back to factory exhaust manifolds - not a fan of these headers..... anyway, I just talked to a dude that has two360’s that we’re running when pulled, but are tired. Just what I wanted cause I was gonna year it down and start over fresh. Problem is, he offered me both engines, along with the auto tranny and Transfer Case one one of em for 400. I have nowhere to stick it at the moment, and don’t have the 400 in lucrative funds at the moment. I need to find someone who needs a 360 and we’ll plot the cost LOL

Ok - it got above 70 today. That can only mean 90+days are soon to follow. IS IT FALL YET???

Finally, we are just about ready for the YJ spring conversion shakedown run, but decided to give the Jeep a once over prior to heading out on the road. Everything checked out,.............except..:(.

Had to take the winch off to get at the steering box bolts, and the cable was pulled out about a foot or so. So, I hooked up the controls and tried to collect the cable, nothing happened! . It only clicked a few times, then silence. :bang:

Pulled the winch off again, cut the ground wire back and installed a new lug, and everything in Jeep land is once again good.

All I can say is you are not making any friends here and I don't think you will see much help from here on out. We all treat each other with respect and love all the knowledge that a lot of these members have. The way you choose to talk to someone who was trying to help you is not welcome here. So I think you need to change your attitude or move on.

And I thought I was the only one who stepped into rabbit holes at every turn!! Glad you got it sorted out.

And quoted me in your post.

You asked a question and I answered. You responded with a reply with no further explanation than "you don't need that, and the manufacturer will tell you you don't need that" even though the manufacturer instructions said you specifically do need that part for a stock ignition control.
I didn't go into deeper explanation for 2 reasons. My gut feeling, you were not going to agree with what I had to say nor did I have the time to explain, so I passed you onto the manufacture who could explain why you don't need 2 BR's in your stock system. Your reply confirmed my gut feeling.

For the folks that have been around awhile pretty much know I post short to medium replies (more short) and just kinda get to the point. More times then not I don't where kid gloves. Sometimes I just don't have the time to explain in detail and hopefully leaving enough for the original poster to do some further investigation on their own however, you seemed to feel entitled to have a full explanation. Not sure what to tell you.

But this, you bought a coil that came with a BS to be used "if" your distributor came with points. Your 79 distributor is electronic and did not come with points. The safety factor you posted about has nothing to do with it. You spent more money then you needed to for a BR you don't need.

From msd 2 coil installation directions

Note:This Blaster Coil is supplied with a ballast resistor. If your application uses a points distributor, the ballast must be used. Late model electronic ignitions or an MSD Ignition do not require the ballast

No but it is spring YEA :)

Oh yea !!!! The grapefruit and satsuma trees flowered a few weeks ago. And there are tomatoes already on my plants. Another cool front is scheduled tonight, but summer is not far off.

Replaced my front upper and lower ball joints and while I was at it put new Tie Rods and spindle bearings on since I had to take them off anyway. I hope i never have to do ball joints again in my life. I think I would rather spend another year downrange getting shot at than doing that.

That being said, I decided that a front hub bearing rebuild is in my future since the passenger side was pretty bad looking although not burnt. Luckily, the wife was helping me yesterday and she agrees that I need new bearings and authorized the purchase :). I packed the bearings full of new clean grease and am now getting my shopping list together for a bearing rebuild. That begs the question to me if it would be better to just go ahead and replace the axles and hubs completely while I am at it? Further, If I go that route what are the best axle shafts to put in?

I would say no - with a caveat. If the hub is worn where the bearing lives, then yes. If the splines are boogered up on the axles, then yes. Otherwise, no way. If the hubs and axles are good, I’d keep em. If you replace em, and stay away from the Chinese :dung: ones, you’re left with used OEM, which is what you already have. As long as the wear and slop is just in the bearings, fresh bearings will fix you up.

Just my two cents - let’s see what the intelligent ones think LOL

Put on a rear disc brake kit from TSM. Been having issues with the rear drums for the last year. After replacing every part that could be replaced, I still had lingering issues. Calipers are from an 80-85 El Dorado with the integrated caliper parking brake. They use a bracket system similar to what SSBC sells, but the whole kit is much less of a PITA to install. After it was all installed, I put in a new MC and PV for front and rear discs, bled the system and took it for a test drive.

Turns out the little bit of brake drag I was getting with the drums had a lot bigger effect on how the CJ drove. I was amazed at how much smoother it drove. Much less vibration and was smooth as butter.

During the process, I replaced the axle bearings and oil seals, so I'm sure that had something to do with it too.

Just in time for this week's events...Jeep club meeting on Thursday, Cruise-in with the Lion's Club on Friday, and coffee run with some local non-CJ owners on Saturday.
