What did you do to or with your CJ today?
It’s in LAX. It’s top class, they have a whole lot of stuff to see. Their basement floor level is amazing. They don’t allow taking pictures. :(

possibly picking up an AFB Carter Competition Series carb for the 305 today for old franky-CJ

absolutely, I love Edelbrock carbs, usually bolt on and go with little to no adjustments almost it's entire life. And Carter, just another Edelbrock, and the one I bought looks like brand new, going to rebuild it anyway. Holley's...well, modular, tunable for racing, but everyday-No, some people like-em, I hate them and I can tune a carb, just hate always having to fiddle with them. I'm one of the few whom actually like Quadrajets, another great carb, set it and forget it.

Q-jets outperform any other carburetor in terms of performance, fuel economy and even steep off-road angles. People dislike them mainly because they don’t know how to tune them correctly. Rochester Q-jets do have their share of issues caused by wear and tear, most of which can be properly fixed. They flow enough cfm for just about any V8 engine, and due to their controlled air flow delivery design, they can be used also in small displacement engines without bogging with accelerator fully depressed.

almost bought one prior to the Carter, but wasn't sure how old it was or how many miles used

And that’s the fly in the soup, you can’t get them new.

Looks like we might be saying the same thing about EFI a lot soon than it took for carbs. :biggun:

not a fan of efi, but I do like throttle bodies

I love my EFI. Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4 MPFI kit. Easy setup, easy tuning, bluetooth to your phone or tablet for tuning and monitoring, BIM interface to the Dakota Digital gauges, easy starts hot or cold, better mpg's, no tweaking for higher altitudes, works at steeper angles, and easy remote and push button start compatible.

understand the advancement of computer controled efi, but I want the personal control over my ignition and fuel delivery, not worried about mpg, carb won't ever leave me stranded for my use as a beach/trail buggy

Yea. Mine is a daily driver, with some camping and hunting trips in the woods. For daily drivability, the EFI is great. I also probably wouldn't have done it for a rig that just hits the beach or woods and isn't seeing many street miles. All depends on planned use.

Just buying parts...eventually I'm going to have to get back to work on it, picked up some headers for the 305, going after a air compressor for the garage here shortly, a 220v 2cyl 20gal 5hp, tired of wrenching, time I got back to using impacts, especially for disassembly.

Don’t use my 60s/70s era Ingersoll Rand 208v-220v 2cyl 60 gal 1 hp ( big GE motor ) Horizontal much anymore. It’s a beast. Someone gave me a small 2 gallon Porter Cable compressor and that gets more usage.

Do consider the convenience of electric power impact wrenches, even the good brand cordless versions which are ridiculously convenient. I got me a cordless recently and I can use my existing power packs on it. Of course, air wrenches are more powerful. Large compressors do take precious garage space, believe me. And don’t forget to use your CO2 tank as well for fast operations.

I'm guessing that this site is dead...too bad
Interesting that you would say that. This post alone has 7,858 replies and 428,635 views and with 22 new posts in the last 7 days. There have been 759 new members since the software change. You have 3 posts in 4 years.

The pandemic killed a lot of out door activities but they are coming back.
