What did you do to or with your CJ today?

I threw my electrical meter across the garage today in frustration while trying to diagnose an ignition issue.... AARG!!!!

I almost did the same thing...

Then I noticed a dead end wire near the alternator... Everything was working on my jeep except the main charging system, the back up was working, but wanted my amps light to come on in the dash, which means main circuit is working...

Anyways, got lucky man, right when I was at your point there...

I ordered a new set of tires for mine, and found a perfect piece of channel to make a new bumper out of.

Replaced all running light bulbs, including the burnt-out one, with 12V LEDs I bought off Amazon.

Do they look different now with the LED bulbs?
Better / worse?

Front ones, where I have the new ground system connected, are brighter than incandescents. The two rear sidelights where one burnt-out bulb was are not so bright. I expect them to brighten up when I run newly-fabricated 2 gauge multistrand to connect to the body rear panels.

Thinking about a top so I can drive it in the winter

I put the hardtop on :( I really didn't want to do it, and it scratched up the new paint a bit, but I don't own a soft top so I didn't have much of a choice in the winter. Sucks. Damn soft tops are a lot of money new :(

Currewntly in the middle of putting a new wiring harness in my 75 the PO was obviously not to mechanically inclined so there was wires cut, spliced, and twisted together everywhere. Ill say this, one of my main power wires from the battery to the dashboard consisted of 5 different colored wires spliced together with either wire ties or twisted together and masking taped to keep them from being "exposed". The head ache has just started. I bought a universal wiring harness off line that is a 14 circuit and I'm hoping this will get rid of the rabbits nest of wires out from behind the dash. :bang:

I'm in the same boat you are in. The PO was rather fond of redneck engineering which has left me with a rat's nest of wires, wire nuts, zip ties, and even pieces of rope under the dash. ::shakes head::
I also got a universal wiring harness online and will be putting it in when my body swap is near an end.

this is going to take awhile running into issues with everything i touch so far. :biggun:

Rebuilt the carb. Took the seats out. Took the fuel pump off, getting ready to install a new one, Realized that one of the freeze plugs are leaking.. :bang:

Took the first step in building a digital engine temperature and fuel gauge set. The display is a $10 buck 16Chars by 2 lines 3 inch white on blue panel. It runs from a 5 volt tiny computer called "Arduino Uno". Any number of sensors can be used; I have a 0 to 1024 degree F precision thermistor, and a TMP36 digital temp sensor, whichever is best.
Here is the first time I had the display running in test mode.

started a new project for it. we will let the rust remover work overnight and tomorrow we will look at some new paint.

Installed a fusion radio...........
And ordered a few parts

bought it new axles and a spare Dana 300

I was always getting hung up on my front bumper. so, i took the saw to it and rebuilt it.
I go plowing through brush quite often so i need the protection for my fenders. Now I need to add a wench to it to finish it up.

this is way cool and the Arduino has so much potential it is scary, you could almost built a EFI system with it.

Well, I almost burned it up. The last few times I cranked it, after sitting for a few days each time, I had to turn the key to 'start' several times before the starter would engage. I couldn't hear the solenoid click, so thought there was probably a corroded connection/ground in the switch circuit. I checked a few spots and tried again, and it tried to turn over. Aha - dead battery. Put the charger on it overnight and tried again. Got a rev, then clicking solenoid. Well, it's an old battery (3+ years). Run on down to Sears and pick up a new Diehard, and put it in (been wanting to get one anyway). That's when the fun began. It made about two revs, then nothing. Turned the key off, and could hear what sounded like the starter still trying for a second or two. And the unmistakable odor of hot insulation. The cable from the solenoid to the starter is melting and smoking. The Neg and Pos cables from the battery are super hot. Disconnected the Neg from the battery. My guess is that the starter has given up the ghost, and taken the wiring and the solenoid with it.

Bought my new wheels. Other than that nothing I'm stuck out of town on business in little rock all week. Also my wife spent my lift kit, gear and locker money. It's been a greaaat week.
