Work on my gas filler open so it will accept the gas filler grommet that I bought. Got a sweet deal on a dash panel that has never been touched and got a grab handle thrown in. Tomorrow my son and I start painting all the bare tube that was bent for my slider and tire carrier.
1977 CJ 5: 258 inline 6 cylinder (4.2L); T18 factory installed four speed transmission; front dana 30 axle, dana 20 spicer transfer case with a dana 20 axle.(I now know that this was originally a Levi Straus Edition.)
Ok so I bit the bullet and I pulled the intake and exhaust manifolds, ordered the new gaskets and also decided to ask some questions:
I have the manifolds off: what should I replace since I have the thing apart. Looking to do a fuel injection and remove the carb soon, yet, can I replace the crab with a better one and make the world a better place ( at least for me?) I have recently re-located to the east coast so I am going to throw in a 170 degree therm and a new gasket, going to replace the EGR valve.....New sparks, of course,..... But what else should i replace while I have this baby apart?
1986 cj7 4" suspension lift, 2" body left. am going to install rear bumper tire carrier, front bumper brush and grill guard, front roll cage and tie in kits. all as money becomes available. dana 30 front end with quadraqtrac four wheel differential. amc 20 locking differentail in the rear. Have solid piece axels just waiting to be installed some slow winters day hopefully in heated garage. Am also going to do, do it yourself paint in tub liner havent decided which one to go with. Any sugestions? hope to do this to the underbody and frame as money allows. I have ordered marine interrior lights for under dash and bach passenger compartment and under hood w/ heavy duty toggle switches. I plan to install a secondary fuse block to acommidate any accessories I may someday get. I know it sounds like a lot but its a pick away project with no deadline. and as money provides.
couldn't do a durn thing on mine today, been rainin off an on since last night down here in central mississippi.no worries though, spring is right around the corner.:grinjeep:
Fabbed up locating plates for the front Dana 30 spring plates today...Had to use '76 plates on my '74 due to availability...so I made locating plates and welded them on to keep theoversized '76 plates from twisting due to being wider than stock....will work really well.
Also discovered a chiped tooth on the front diff ring gear...but scored a ring & pinion set on Ebay for $60....saved apx. 120.00.....gotta love that.

Spending the four day weekend in Moab Utah Jeeping with friends. Today we went on Hell's Revenge. Had to make a return trip with new U bolts and U joints to repair the rear axle and drive shaft on friends Cherokee. Yesterday I lost my rear drive shaft on the trail, the cap bolts broke. Then after making my way out and back to town the front drive shaft cap bolt broke as I drove into town. Spent the evening repairing drive shafts. Having a great time.
played games with the MC2100 for an hour or two set timing at 12 deg before and leaned the idle jets to 700 RPMs. spent the rest of the day working on the wiring of the driving lights and new turn/marker lights. Ran driving lights through a relay controlled by the high beam relay and a dash switch.
1985 cj8 streched to 118in wheel base, shackle reversal soa, chevy vortec 350, turbo 350, dana 60 front and corp 14 rear, custom bumpers front and rear
2006 Ford F350 CCLB with the dreaded 6.0 that has given me no problems
Drained / cleaned / installed gasket / refilled front diff. PO used RTV instead of a gasket so it provided me with the opportunity to spend more time getting to know the mating surfaces.
Replaced oil pan gasket. Old one was cracked and had copious amounts of RTV squished all over the place to try and stop the leak which obviously didn't work.
I scared mine...Now I cant get it to come back down off the trailer it perched on...
Oh yea, I cleaned the frame up and got the engine/Transmission ready to pull. Starting on the swap to another 360 backed by a T-18 /Dana 20 from a '78 CJ5 . Need to see how much I will need to change around then I'll probably throw the original drivetrain back in so I can actually drive it this summer!
