I finally got to drive it again after two weeks

Just finished setting the timing after replacing the timing chain. Since i had plenty of day left i replaced the leaky axle seal and took her for a test drive.

I spent this afternoon using the CJ to transport bags of corn way back into the woods to my deer feeder. It's been raining here for two days, so only a Jeep or a mule was capable of getting through all the mud on the trail.

Spent the day 4wheeling with Tin Medic, Purple77cj7 and csuengr. And had a blast. It was a pretty tough trail I got hung up on the rocks a few times and bent my factory step on the right side up.I will be posting pics on my thread soon.

Finally put my new engine and tranny in last night. I'm figuring about 6 more working hours before everything is back together and I can turn the key.

This morning I broke off a manifold bolt flush in the head !!! %^#%$&$ ME !!!

I've broken two drill bits and 1 easy out trying to get that damn grade 8 bolt out. First though I had to drill an 1 1/2 hole in my inner fender well to give me access to the damn thing. It was either that or pull the motor/Transmission I just put in....

Looks like I'm gonna have to drill it out and run a tap in it and hopefully clean up the threads....

DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN....(sorry CJ) DARN DARN DARN DARN

If you broke off a grade 8 bolt holding the manifold, do you think that you just may have over torqued it ? just a little? Maybe?

Funny IOPort51 !! .... Next week I'll laugh. today I'm just pissed at myself

I am doubting the quality of the Ace hardware grade 8 section.

These bolts were used on the 360 I just pulled out, but apparently the heads are NOT drilled as deeply as the former heads......and I didnt check the available depth. I torqued to the specified 15 lbs, and still could see a hairline gap between the manifold and the bolt head. Normally I would have STOPPED and backed it off, but I thought it was just pulling the manifold in. I couldnt have gone more than 18-20 lbs before it twisted off.

I was a bit suprised. The older-wiser me didnt throw anything or even swear (that much)... I guess age has had an effect on my temper!! LOL

:D

I couldnt fit an impact in there but the 3 ft pipe on the ratched seemed to provide enough leverage:eek:
(same bar I use to torque my spark plugs)
