What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Finally put my new engine and tranny in last night. I'm figuring about 6 more working hours before everything is back together and I can turn the key.

This morning I broke off a manifold bolt flush in the head !!! %^#%$&$ ME !!!

I've broken two drill bits and 1 easy out trying to get that damn grade 8 bolt out. First though I had to drill an 1 1/2 hole in my inner fender well to give me access to the damn thing. It was either that or pull the motor/Transmission I just put in....

Looks like I'm gonna have to drill it out and run a tap in it and hopefully clean up the threads....

DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN....(sorry CJ) DARN DARN DARN DARN

UPDATE.....Trying to work through a 1 1/2 inch hole in the inner fender was a joke. Woke up this morning determined to get this fixed this morning. Removed the fender, got some good drill bits in there and finally re-tapped that hole. (Drivers side, front exhaust manifold bolt)

Checked and RE-CHECKED all bolt lengths, and re-installed exhaust manifold. That only cost me a day... could have been worse. I'll take my time with the rest of the project. I wanna turn the key on the new engine, but if I keep making dumb mistakes it will be quite a while.

Ok Tarry99, and IOPort51..... I can joke about it now.... crisis is over!!:D LOL

(still pissed at myself...that was a dumb mistake and normally not my nature) I can still feel that bolt twisting off...

that is a 3/8 16 is it not?? should have been able to handle 44 ft lbs.

sorry about the cheep shot.:D

Not at all!!! I walked in the house, greasy hands, pissed off, with my stomach in a knot... and saw your post.... It made me laugh out loud and shake my head...

I needed that

Connected new front driveshaft, rear driveshaft to rebuilt Dana 300 , using Spicer new U-joints. Tomorrow the support pan, and drive off to get some fresh no-alky gasoline. Just in time! This week all the rebuilt old cars, trucks, and much more show up for "Cruzin' the Coast". Beach Blvd (US90) will close off tomorrow as a few thousand show, and maybe not so showy, old vehicles parade all day.

1. Repaired broken off exhaust manifold bolt in head.
2. Installed manifolds.
3. Re-installed fender.
4. Installed new (for me) Offenhauser intake manifold, and carb.
4. New spark plugs.
5. Installed distributor.
6. Replaced power steering high-pressure hose.
7. Installed grill.
8. Installed Transmission oil cooler and connections.
9. Tried to install new Champion aluminum radiator, but flange is welded 3/8 inch too narrow.

Felt productive until the radiator issue.

Wow, I'll say you we're productive.

I connected the exhaust that completely separated near the converter. Figured out I have a bad speaker. Fixed on board air leak, no leak just left the air drain open on the tank.... topped off all gear fluids... seemed to run smoother or just me wanting it too...

Replaced the tie rod ends. Now I'm ready for next weekend.

Its not a cj I but lifted a jeep

Yesterday took OFF exhaust manifold I just installed because bottom stud was stripped. Took it to welding shop to remove them from manifold.

Replaced studs.
Re-installed manifold.
Put exhaust system back in.
Filled Tcase and put skid plate back on.
Went to church.
Put gas in her and then realized my starter was on its way to the grave when I took the jeep off the road in March.... replaced starter.
Fired up new engine!!!

Engine ran GREAT

Drove about 10 minutes till coil wire popped off and wouldnt restart. (dead battery)

Discovered 2 freeze plugs are leaking. Will be discussing that with the machine shop who installed them 2 months ago.

I played in my backyard

In the mud, on the logs, on the rock garden and on the hill :D

Replaced the old rubber bushing in the springs with polyurethane bushing. Rear shackles was riding metal on metal.:( Seems to ride a little softer now.:D

My daughter came over,in her Rubicon, but we took the CJ to lunch and shopping because "gee Daddy your Jeep is so much cooler than mine". It was a great day, sunshine, not too hot about 75-80 and we took the scenic route every place we went.:D

This weekend I took the drivers side seat out, along with the master brake cylinder and clutch cylinder. Still always to go before the tub come out.

congrats

Changed the oil, oil filter, valve cover gasket and air filter last night and, apparently, the PO hadn't changed it in a long time as it was bad runny almost like water. The oil pressure would be around 30-40 when cold then drop to around 5-15 after reaching operating temp. Good news is there was not a single clump of sludge on the lifters or valve cover. I could not believe my eyes. I start calling everyone over to see it and watch there looks of amazement.. Reminded me of Bill Cosby on stage talking about the baby making poopoo. Some of you younger guys won't know what I'm talking about.

Will change the plugs, plug wires, pcv, dist. cap, rotor button and thermostat next week.

Fixed damage from vandalism last Friday. Some joker slashed the inside of my right rear tire and disconnected the fuel line from the rail. Sometimes I hate people.
