What did you do to or with your CJ today?
I installed some new front fenders.
:notworthy:

NICE!
How much?
Where did you get them?
How hard were they to install?
You should almost write a review or start a thread on them.

I got them from Metalcloak.

http://www.metalcloak.com/category-s/243.htm

With parts, shipping, and powder coating I have about $1,000.00 in them. They come with full inner fender wells. That was one reason I went with them. The other was I just don't like the plain flat fender. These have a little style to them. They are very well made and installation was pretty easy. The harder part was relocating some of the under the hood things and I installed a DUI system at the same time.

Those are really nice but a $1000 ouch :notworthy:

Bought a Scrambler pickup top with glass for $125. Bought a YJ windshield frame yesterday for $75. The CJ5 halfcab project has begun!

I apparently need to start using my PA connections to source parts. Y'all find good stuff cheap out there, we have too many hoarders in Texas I guess. I inquired about a Scrambler the other day and was told by the 83 year old owner he was going to rebuild it some day. Nice guy, but I doubt he will get to it anytime soon looking around his place there!

This won't be too expensive Dear! That's what I keep saying. Over and over again.

I have run into the same thing. You find a CJ sitting out in a field with grass taller than the Jeep and they still won't even talk to you about selling it. I don't get it. There is one right down the road from my house that I asked about 5 years ago and the guy told me he was going to build it up for his son. I can understand that. I told him if he changed his mind to come see me and I would take it off his hands. Well it is still sitting in the same spot and his son just graduated high school and is driving a Hummer now.

A Hummer.......that is the epitome of American Excess! I would never own one of those vehicles, but its kinda like hearing the four barrels kick in on a 454, makes me glad I work in the oilfield!:chug:

i got the body off the frame...looks kinda weird looking at it now. I'll get some pics up in a bit.

now starts the fun of axles off, and rebuild up. I do have a couple of questions though, now that i can see the frame...

1. should i start a build thread if im gonna be asking a couple of questions (well, i guess i should, answered my own question)

2. i'll get the pics loaded up in a few, but is it normal for the frame to "look like" its been halfed together, like two c shaped pieces of metal, that have been welded. and how do you prevent rust on the inside of the frame? if at all possible.

thx

1 - Yes start a build thread... :D For the questions, just ask with a new thread in the appropriate sections (ie drive train / suspension etc) and link to you build thread for more information. But the build thread "should" be (as I understand) as cleanly "just building" as you can.

2 - I believe you're saying it's been boxed in. Either factory or after (PO). I neglected to read what year it is before replying... :p

Cant wait to watch the build man!

Yes that's normal for your year. At least if your saying what I think you are.
My frame is so full of dirt and :dung: I sometimes think thats all thats holding it together.

My frame looks that way a well. 1980 CJ5 . The welds are not pretty, but it is all held together well. I'm guessing there was not a lot of QC on the place frames were made in that year due to the amount of wire and weld splatter led on the frame and other welded points?

But yes, mine looks boxed as well and all has factory paint on it. When I take the rear frame section off for repairs, I plan on trying to get it all washed out some how or another?!?! Would be great to have it all dipped and galvanized some how or another but it has fared pretty well for 33 years now.

Took the CJ7 out for its first snow run. :D Did pretty good considering the tires are pretty beat. Only had to be pulled out a few times. Snow wasn't all that deep, but it was fun burstin though some snow dirft's

:)Dog..Yep, one day you'll be driving down the trail and the front end will make a left turn while the rear makes a right turn.............(LOL)

The ugly welds were all robotic.

Any of you with the body's off I would put some effort in getting all the dirt and junk out of the inside of the frame rails...........Eastwood makes an ingenious spray paint with a long 24" 360 degree nozzle that will get in there and put some protection on those rusted areas inside the frame..... not going to fix it but may slow it down............

:D:D:D:D
