Lately the Jeep's been difficult to start.

Today I looked into it. Carb's dirty.

A little carb cleaner went much, much further than I thought it would, but I want to pull it, clean it properly and reinstall.

Or rather, I want to desire to do it right; I'm uninspired just now.

:) or it could be colder than it was a couple months ago. This seems to be the time of year when the main topic is, "My Jeep won't start." or "I have to pump the gas pedal to get my jeep to start." "What's wrong?" It sounds like you have it under control, but if you can try to keep your repairs simple.

Always appreciate the encouragement, Hedgehog :)

True, it's colder. Fuel delivery before and after the filter's good. Spark plugs are not fouled and each wire arcs from the boot to the plug. Honestly, the carb was the last thing I wanted to and did finally check. After the cleaner, it's not hard to start cold now. I'd just like to be motivated enough to polish out the varnish and dirt/soot/whatever it is in there that ain't fresh gasoline and carb parts :)

Wooly - Just thought I'd drop you a note for future reference. That big black sorta square object just behind your rear axle is not a crash cushion or jeep landing pillow. It probably would be good if you didn't smash it against the hard stuff any more than is necessary.

And hey, I wanna see some big foots too .........................

It's most likely your choke setting.
Make sure all of your intake/exhaust manifold bolts, carb assembly screws and carb base nuts are tight.

Thanks. Yet another reason to pull it. The gaskets at the carb's base are worn and it won't snug down any more. It's wobbly, ever so slightly, but enough to be an issue.

It's nice today. I should go do that while it's still day light.

'preciate it!

Chuckling :). That tank has taken quite a beating and is about 11 gallons now. Maybe I need to find smaller rocks to play on....nah.....I need a thicker skid plate!

Finally got my T-18 ready for install. Now to connect the Dana 300 .

Wooly - nice lookin' truss in the bottom picture. How do the spring U-bolt work with the truss in the way like that?

Not sure how they worked around that! I need to make one that will work with flipped ubolts.

I can't help but wonder if in the end they didn't go, "OOPS!"

When installing the replacement disk front brake axle and making a few adjustments, toe in and camber angle, the CJ is driving fairly well. But, the steering developed a disconcerting feel at highway speeds. The original axle had a steering stabilizer/dampener so I installed a new one on the CJ. Then while diagnosing the steering shaft bind the added strain of turning the wheel without power steering on made the lower steering shaft coupler totally fail. A BORGESON Heavy Duty Replacement Steering Shaft is now on order.

When building up the front axle I made up a set of heavy duty spring shackles. They worked very well so I made up a set for the rear. Now both front and rear shackles are the same. Another modification to check off the list of "Things to do before the Colorado trip."
