If seeing photos of a TJ on this site causes anxiety, please change threads. I promise, I still have my CJ and still drive it regularly.
Yesterday my TJ Ruby went into the shop to have a lift kit installed. Carol and I decided this afternoon that we really needed to road test it to be sure it was at least half as good as a CJ. We thought a run up to Cripple Creek via Old Stage and Gold Camp Road was in order so off we went. We hadn't been up this way since the latest several snows so wanted to check road conditions. I guarantee, road conditions are "snow packed and icy". About a third of the way across, we were flagged down by a couple of guys in a Ford pickup. They had seen the winch on the front of the TJ and asked if we would be willing to assist in trying to get a car back on the road. We said we would so we proceeded on up the road a couple hundred yards to where a very nice Jeep sedan of some flavor was hanging down over the side of the road. It had gone down far enough to be completely of the shoulder and nothing but a couple of 2-inch aspens was keeping it from going on down. That wasn't the worst of the problems, however. The guys in the pickup had tied a couple of straps to the undercarriage and to a tree on the other side of the road which was keeping the car from turning turtle. The gravel on the shoulder under the car kept slipping and the car was starting to want to roll pretty bad.
You can see from the photos that we were able to to get our TJ about two Jeep lengths from him and with our rear center shackle pointed at a good, solid 8-inch aspen tree. We tied a strap from the tree to the TJ and ran the winch cable out to the car. Meanwhile, the guys in the pickup positioned their rig pretty much directly across the road from the car and ran another strap from the undercarriage of the car to the back bumper of the pickup to hold it from rolling.
As you can see, it was really a piece of cake to winch the car back up onto the road from that point. Nice to be able to help someone out. The guy with the pickup had his wife with him and she told Carol that it might be a lot easier for her husband to talk her into letting him buy a winch now.

- '80 CJ7, Just a rolling frame right now... will have Mopar 360, Torqueflite 727, D20, full size D44, Chrysler 9.25 with 4 wheel discs. SOA on Rubicon Express 1.5" YJ springs.

More garage prep for winter / spring work. Hung last summers Wypall towel dispenser and a huge roll of shop towel.

On those "Trail Rated" badges. They are sorta cool and I'm sure a selling point. But I think they are silly in some ways. I've been considering a type of protest badge for our CJ's where a badge that says, "CJ - War Rated" in the middle. With "Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Border Patrol" around the outside.

Posi - I see where you are going with that, but there are a few ways I don't think it's silly. Marketing is important for Fiat, they need to sell all the cars they can here in America and it is a cool sparkly, I like sparkles....

At work I was tasked to make some Challenge coins for the bosses to give for instant recognition for exceptional customer service. I enjoyed doing the work, making the necessary contacts and seeing how much it pleased those that were recognized. I've been thinking about making them for the CJ community, but while not as expensive as you'd think per coin, they needed to be purchased in bulk so in the end they weren't cheap for an individual to purchase. I'm still thinking about t though. If done right the badges would be cool.
