I haven't a picture for you but the other end attaches to a adapter of sorts that's attached to the exhaust manifold. The idea is a temp operated switch diverts vacuum to a switch in your air cleaner neck. When cold it drafts hot air off the manifold to aid in a speedy warm up which in turn shuts off the choke. Soon as its warmed up the switch allows vacuum to open the door in the cleaner neck which blocks off the hot air and sucks in nice cool air from the hose off the air cleaner snorkel up the the radiator support. Everybody seems to trash their stock setups in favor of a chrome open cleaner. This sucks in nothing but hot engine air instead of cooler outside air which is more dense and creates more power. Heck, even the old 64 427 Galaxy ran a cold air intake for this purpose, and Im sure Ferd wasn't thinking environmentally happy thoughts back then.

Could it be that I don't have an an input adapter on my manifold. I can't see where this could possibly go.

Thanks
Ken

I need to get savvy with adding pictures here but I wnet out and looked at my 83 and the maniford end is attached to the exhaust manifold between the two front cylinder runners. Its kind of a tin adapter that aims the heat hose horizontially out towards the fender well. If its there you kinda cant miss it. It might have been rusted off or removed by a PO cause it isnt that beefy. If your looking to reinstall one I have seen kits at auto parts stores that simply used a very simple bracket of sorts that hose clamped on to the manifold runner and served the purpose. Here In Calif you'd never pass smog without it.

The adapter is nothing more than a shield that surrounds the exhaust manifold to supply warm air to the carb during cold moring starts. Here is a picture.

If you need a shield, let me know as I have one you can have for postage. Rod

This is where it goes too.

This shows where it goes without the air cleaner.

Attached to breather.

Ok thanks for the posts and especially th epics. Just went outside and i clearly dont have that round thing on the exhause manifold. Checking ebay it seems I have an aftermarket exhaust manifold or manifold off something different as they it doesnt align perfectly to the engine although there is no smoke coming out.

Thats sorted then. I check the other 2 Cjs at the weekend and see if they have it.

Thanks
Ken
