Winter Gear Oil Selection

Winter Gear Oil Selection
Ditto the synthetic. I think Novak's site says to use conventional lube, but I switched to synthetic in my Subaru after the first winter (gear shift lever was hard to move) and it made a big difference.

I'm not sure what's in my CJ, but it was near 0 degrees (F!) for a few weeks already this winter and I didn't have any problems with the tranny. It's getting rebuilt this summer and since it's my winter beater, I'll be putting synthetic in unless someone can give me a really good reason not to.

 I'll be 67 in March. :poke:
Got ya beat by a few months, I'll be 68 in September (assuming I make it that long...)

I run semi-synthetic Valvoline gear lube in my T-18 and Dana 20 . But it doesn't get any winter driving. It's resting nice and cozy in my lake house's heated garage with the battery tender on....

Syn seems like the better idea with running it year round. I was thinking the trick was blending ATF but couldn't recall for certain. Thanks for the responses.
