1977 CJ5 Transfer Case?

Hi, I have a 1977 Jeep CJ5, would like to know what type of transfer case it has and the shift pattern for it. thanks.

Howdy, my 77 CJ5 's both have Dana Spicer model 20 transfer cases, my 79 did also. I think from the late 60s thru 1979 these were used, not sure if others were as well during that time.

Not sure what you mean by shift pattern, straight line shifter, 4 positions, all the way back is 4 low, going forward is Neutral, 2 High and all the way forward is 4 High

All three of mine came mated to a T-150 3 speed Transmission . That shift pattern was Left up-reverse, left down 1st, right up-2nd, right down-3rd.

Thanks, mine is a little weird that's way I asked. on mine all the way up is 4x4
I just dont know if its Low or High.

If your CJ is stock with the original Dana 20 it will be the pattern I posted. Has the Transfer Case been swapped out?

And normal 4wd high is fully forward.

thanks now I get it. 4h,2l,N,4L. ok. I guess Im having issues with the 4L. then its ether not kicking in of its poping out.

on mine all the way up is 4x4
I just dont know if its Low or High.

It should be real easy to tell if its low or high if its in high it will drive the same as 2WD. If its in low you will only be able to go like 5mph in first. just don't do it on dry pavement.

Up to 1971 all CJs used a Spicer 18 transfer case. 1972 to 1979 used the Spicer-Dana 20 with the exception of the full time Quadratrac Borg Warner 13-39 used in some CJ7s from 1976 to 1979. From 1980 to 1986 all CJs used the Dana 300.
