Yes on the tailgate......

I. Made nut plates to help bolting the hinges on - but neglected to enlarge the hole underneath........ unless you have tiny fingers and are a contortionist, you may need a mod or two.

....no on the filler neck.

Funny - I can't even give that custom cover plate away LOL

Things are gonna get busy here in a few minutes - You guys have a very Merry Christmas....... enjoy some down time with the tots......

Well happy new year everybody, I’m getting some work done that I have been wanting to do for many years I got my chief wahoo rear cross member located and welded in, frame has been widened to accept the new YJ 20 gallon tank and I have set the pinion angle on the rear axle and welded the perches on.... and the little ones survived me watching them while momma is at work.... good day so far.

Hopefully I have enough time to get the front suspension finish welded before I have to return the welder I’m borrowing

Good progress - go ahead and weld her up tonight- you can sleep when you get old.....

Courious how much the frame needed to be widened for the tank ? The whole frame or just where the tank is ?

And while he’s askin - how much cutting and welding did it take? Or did you just use a hydraulic ram and push it open???

I’m going to try and take some better pictures but I had to widen the frame several inches, I will get the number here in a minute, I bought the YJ front gas tank cross member so that I would have the correct width and used a porta jack to spread the frame rails til it fit after that I used some ratchet straps on the back end of the frame to achieve the same width making the back section square, for what ever reason amc decided to spread the YJ frame rails out past the bottom of the tub in the rear wheel well. The YJ 20 gallon poly tank is actually 1/2 an inch to wide to fit between the CJ frame rails

I cut the two rear cross members out and used a porta jack til the new YJ front cross member fit, you will also need new spring perches for the axle as well, it’s not a mod I would recommend do to it’s cost, I already needed a new rear cross member do to my po handy work, and I need a new gas tank as well, I wanted the in tank fuel pump for my injection system when i get to it so I bought the tank and skid plate not knowing that the frame rails are so much wider.... live and learn, I saw lots of comments about the YJ tank not fitting but no one saying why, now I know

Well the old frame width was 32.5 from inside to inside and the new width is 37.5

Wow - 5” is a healthy increase..... more than I thought it might be.

Yep sure is, gonna make the exhaust an easier install at least

Good thing the jack didn’t slip - would have flung that sucker across the county.....

Wow ! Guess I might go with a custom tank for the ease of installation:)

Now you need a bumper sticker that reads “Does this fuel tank make my *** look big???”

Lol now that’s funny
