Well, I used some anti seize to do my tooth contact patch on the front axle and I still don’t like the way it looks and my 2 year was napping so I couldn’t take it apart to reshim the pinion

So on to the bell housing, got a jack stand under the oil pan got the bellhousing off to use as a pattern to make a new engine dust shield got it close to size and had to start dinner

Lets see the pattern on your front ring and pinion.

some type of sheet metal ?

Looks good so far.....

And yeah - Where’s the pattern???

My 1971 Dodge FSM shows the gear patterns and how to shim it up and down and of course I can’t find that manual anywhere and the Jeep FSM doesn’t have a diagram of it

Looks like you need some more pinion depth.

I’m tempted to put another 5k on the pinion to see if I can get it perfect

Better - but still looks too close to the tooth edge to me.......

It’s strange to me that one side is in the center and the other side is on the edge, I don’t remember this much difference with the other axles I’ve assembled the patterns where usually closer together

Mine was like this as well - one was centered and the other was not quite. But neither was on the edge like that. Too much pressure on the edge will cause it to chip

What's your backlash like? Are you rotating it with any load?

Using my hand as load and my backlash is .0005

I would decrease backlash ( ie move the carrier/ring gear closer to the pinion ) before you add anymore to the pinion.

Aren’t we supposed to have between .0006- .001 backlash?

Oh i didnt see what your backlash was set at. I would add another 5k to the pinion see how it looks

Hopefully I can get a few minutes to try it tonight before the kids go to bed

Just a double check, are the extra 0s a typo? Should be .006-.01.
