I’ve never outboarded springs so I can’t speak with any first hand experience
I had a rear CJ 44 so it would look pretty goofy outboading the springs.
It only cost me $100 to respline both shafts.
When I tossed a set of 60s under my current CJ I was confronted with the same choice....outboard or cut down, I chose to cut down both the front and rear.
I just don't prefer to have the wheels stick out so far by keeping the full 44 or 60 axle width.
I run with a lot of folks who outboard their springs and that’s fine as well.
