Ask me about my head light upgrade harness!!!
Im finally finishing the under hood wiring on my Yj.. I know, Boo Yj, but have a distributor question. Im using the stock AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l distributor with the MSD 6A control box and Street blaster TFI coil.

Ive got the directions and are ok with em but heres my question.. The third wire from the distributor.. What is it? GRound? if I dont use it can it be cut off? I noticed today that it was starting to fray and have some exposed wires. Im pretty sure its a ground wire. When I track it through the distributor its not visible on the inside. I know I should provide a pic or atleast the color codes but Ive seen good info come from less of a description. The 6a harness ad all the connections cut off of it so getting the adapter is not an option.

Wow.. No one? Really?

Jimbo, That black wire from the Motorcraft distributor was for the ground connection to the oem type icm. Which was a poor one at that. On my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , I run that black ground wire from the icm direct to the battery negative, rather than the oem method of from the icm to the distributor, to the distributor hold down, to the engine block, then the battery ground wire connection at the block.

Excellent.. That's what I thought. I was planning on grounding it. Thanks a lot.
