Oil for older engines

Oil for older engines
You .... I ..... it wasn't written well. I'm happy with a hot idle pressure of 30psi, moving pressure is still 65psi. My old AMC 304 ran at 18psi with a little more, maybe 22psi when moving. Yes, I'm happy with this engine.

Hope your are not depending on the Jeep, OEM ele. oil pressure gauge to ever be 'rite'. They ain't.

Just as an FYi, Valvoline doesn't manufacture base stock anymore. They are a Marketer. That means they buy base stock from other and multiple suppliers and add there own add pac and packaging. In Canada Walmarts house oil is made with the same base stock as one of Valvoline"s blends.

Grits - Yep I knew that was coming, my gauges are from Autometer.

Don't really care where the base oil comes from, I'm sure it meets Valvoline's specifications.

Yeah I cant trust my oil gauge mostly cause after driving around for awhile and coming to a stop it will read zero. Then when I start moving again it will read about 20 or 25. Its just completely wrong.

This is why I have changed mine to a mechanical gauge.

I'm a rock solid believer in Lucas Magnum 15w-40 truck oil with 20% Lucas stabilizer. I have it in EVERYTHING and have for 10 years.

My $0.02.

The best way to tell how your oil is doing is to pull a sample and have it checked, and often until you know what you're dealing with. Without that (or the demise of an engine) it's all either conjecture on one man's experience vs. another - even if they're both telling the truth.

We do it at work and that's why we use what we use. I'm sure others use other products for the same reason as no "one single solitary" oil is the answer to all situations.

For these old Jeep's a 15w40 diesel oil is an excellent answer for them. For rebuilt motors you open the playing field up a bit.

I'm a firm believer in the Lucas stabilizer regardless of the oil you choose as it will indeed make it last longer and minimize friction at startup and for short runs where it doesn't get warm.

I am curious about why everyone hates on Fram filters...what am I missing there?
