You could just install a 90 degree grease zirk without pulling anything.

See - Thats why you make the big bucks. Even a 45 would donit..... But I didn’t have any handy so I would have had to pull all the stuff anyways. But - To the hardware store I go....

Met the better half for supper tonight when she got off work......... Everything was working properly when I got there, but when I started the CJ yo head home, I noticed the bolt meter was only reading about 12.5 volts - no bueno. Got to the house and hit it with the multimeter - just under 13 volts. Not running. Just over 13 running.......Checked all connections - nice and tight. So I guess tomorrow I hit the auto parts store and have em check the alternator........ It’s nights like this I’m not a fan of cold weather.......

Was a bad alternator. Failed all three parts of the test. It was under warranty, but they didn't have one in stock..... could have one in house Fri morning....... like I have patience for that. Besides, supposed to snow a bit tomorrow. Took a cash refund, went to Napa, and they only had one for the I6..... connections were clocked wrong, but looked like a rotation of the front housing would fix that, so I took it. Got it home, reclocked it, took it outside, and during the installation process I realized the ground was not in the right spot and was hitting the block. Thought about spacing it out with washers, but said screw it - I'd just get one shipped in here. Dropped by the Advance that's close to the house to get antifreeze and just for fun asked if they had an alternator.... They did! Bought that one, swapped it for the 6 cyl one, and now all is good......

lol dang thats a lot of running around for an alternator, good to hear you figured it out and got it fixed

Your CJ came with a 10si, if you still have it switch it out for an 83 or newer CJ 12si. Improved cooling and higher output. The 10si has a metal fan that blows air at the alternator, the 12si has a plastic exhaust fan that pulls hot air from the alternator. They should be about the same price. Disregard if you already have an upgrade.

I started with an I6 alternator that looked like it would work, but after digging into it that was a no go. Since I have a AMC 304 , and the I6 alternators won’t work, and they stopped putting the AMC 304 ’s on the CJ’s after 83, will this upgrade still work?

FSJ 83 or newer should work fine. I have one on my 79 V8

Wonder why the California cj has a 95 amp alternator in it? When I replaced the alternator in my cj I was pretty happy to hear that.
