What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Starting issues. Every once in a while it wouldn’t start and my “solution” was to wiggle the negative wire on the battery. Figured it was a dirty post and I’d get to it. Went on vacation and didn’t start it for a couple of weeks and now all I get is the clunk. So I’m taking out and cleaning the battery, solenoid, wires etc. took out the battery tray. It was a mess. Gonna paint it with the magic rust get-ridder-of-er. Love that stuff.

Decided to investigate exhaust leak.Removed headers to find that no gaskets were used on headers or collectors.Hmm wonder why it was leaking. Good to learn LS1 6.0 headers will work on a 350...wonder how many more times my Master Plan will change.

First learned that the Holley Sniper EFI I dumped money into will never really work well on my odd fire V6 without a ton of programming - if at all.

Decided to make myself feel better my getting around to swapping out my stock 1940's era axles with brand new running gear I had built with ARBs in them... only to find that my jack stands are about 3 inches too short. *sigh*

Not a great Jeep day all around.

It shouldn't really be all that hard to set up. The Dauntless Buick 225 V6 put out around 160hp. More than the latter AMC 304 's. I don't remember if you have the 2 or the 4bbl Sniper, but the 2bbl works great on our 79 AMC 304 , and we really didn't do much beyond the initial setup so far.

Can't think of ANY reason you should have problems with a Sniper on your engine... Using Sniper for timing - different issue altogether, but air/fuel - nothing to it. Let us know what's going on...

Thought about taking the female seatbelt sections off and replacing them with the rest of the new set... but didn't... I did stare at it for awhile...

I had been mulling that very thing over in my head for months...... had a great set of lap / shoulder belts, but the female side were toast. Finally got off my butt and scrounged the pick n save - got a couple nice ones off a 77 Dodge pickup. Don't have a good plastic sleeve on either, but I think I have a plan. If you need better ones, I found that 80's - 90's Lincoln's fit nicely!

Just to wig out the paranoid, I sent this from my drone.....

I ended up buying a set of sleeves from seatbeltsplus... I figure I'll get more for the OEM's on eBay with the sleeves. I hear only nefarious types frequent pick-n-pulls...

You are quite correct, Sir LOL

Finally attempting to start assembly of my engine. Has been, and will be a long process I can tell. Luckily the engine in my jeep now is working well. I'm not like some of you guys who can go years without driving my jeep. I'm a jeep addict and need a regular fix of driving mine and getting seat time often as I can !

Had to spray bug poison on all flat surfaces (hood fenders and metal hard top) to kill about a hundred little black ants??? Never had to do that on any vehicle before.

Even the ants love Jeeps :)

I wired in an H4 headlight conversion, which led to cleaning up a bunch of old wiring that went to who knows what over the years. So......new lights and a cleaner wiring harness! Also replaced the old tail lights with some nice quality new ones.

Hope everyone has a safe and blessed 4th!

Finally ordered the replacement floor pans...all four...got some cutting and welding to do...

Bought a 54 3b from a guy that owned it since the early 90s
He did some work to it back in 95 and just enjoyed it.
He didn't much care how it looked (pretty ugly), he just had fun with it which I can respect.
About 5 years ago he lost interests and it sat until he had to move recently.
We all know what happens when any vehicles sits that long especially old ones.
The engine wasn't running correctly, step on the accelerator and it would die, rough idle, backfiring, horrible gas fumes in the passenger cabin.
A lot of body work will be needed and most of it isn't from rust rather bad placement of add-ons (IMO) and poor sheetmental work.

Exactly what I was looking for!
Also, a big thanks to Bill D for his assistance.

My first mod was to get rid of the straight back tailpipes. I couldn't even take this thing for a test drive without being engulfed in fumes. After I added the turnouts no fumes!
Now to address the engine.

Nice!

I don’t think I ever mentioned in May that we picked up a 49 3a for my wife. We got it from a family friend that got it in 88. It was used around his farm sparingly.

Very nice looking 3a. I remember the pics you posted from inside the PO’s garage. Happy for you and the family you were able to purchase it. Enjoy!

Thanks. It is a fun little Jeep. It amazes me how exciting 45 mph can feel.

I have some little things to deal with, like wiring, and the front flap, etc, but no rush. It drives great.

Here is a pic of the Jeeps (maybe 2 plus a mopar) in my driveway.

I have a ways to go, hopefully done with the makeover before I leave for CO in 5 weeks. This pic is when it arrived while I was unloading the parts that came with it.
