Very good on the console!! We need pics...... you should know better

As for the stabilizer - I wouldn’t beat yourself up to bad. First one I ever mounted was on my first Jeep in high school. Mounted both ends to the drag link. Yeah, it make a lot of difference....

Looks very good - like it came that way...... and isn’t a bit of security a nice feeling??

Yep, it'll come in handy when I go trout fishing up in the mountains for my cell phone, wallet etc. I have a tendency to fall in sometimes and some things just don't need to get wet lol.

My tailgate got scratched when my license plate frame slid over too far to the right. It only had an 1/8" clearance to begin with.

I welded a washer onto the license frame bracket so that it gave me 3/8" clearance and now it can't move.

This has to be the stupidest mod ever...

Well, that statement tells me you’ve never wandered thru my build...... LOL

And what a cool thread THAT would be....

Not stupid if it works.

Hanging out with my little boys today while they're off school. New tie rod and drag link showed up from Big Daddy Offroad so we worked on it together and got it taken care of. I'm impressed by the quality.

I've had a small "weird" noise coming from the front of my recently rebuilt engine. Just a "chunk chunk chunk" sound that was only noticeable at idle and only when the engine was warm.
Sooo, the paranoid person that I am and thanks to the internet I was concerned that it was a symptom of "cam walk" a condition where the cam is moving forward and hitting the timing chain cover. which over time can lead to failure of the cam.
Yesterday I decided it was time for exploratory surgery and to remove the timing chain cover and see what was going on in there. Not a real hard job but it does require taking the radiator off, removing the fan, harmonic ballancer, alternator and of course the timing chain cover.
All was going well until I got to the crank bolt, it broke free pretty easily but was tight all the way out. I knew that wasn't good but I was going to get it out no matter what. Seems my concerns were right, the bolt was stripped and the threads in the crank were pretty mangled. Off to town I go searching for the elusive 1/2 X 20 tap. Stopped at every parts store in town and finally had to buy a complete tap and die set just to get the 1/2 X 20. Got back home and finally got the tap started straight and slowly the process of straightening the buggered up threads. I'll have to say, that crankshaft is made of some very hard steel!!!
After I got that chore done I removed the timing chain cover fully expecting to see massive damage from the cam coming into contact with the cover or at least a loose timing chain that was slapping the cover. Not the case!! It was in pristine shape with nary a scratch, the timing chain was tight as well.
I did notice that the harmonic ballancer was not in great shape so I scrounged up the ballancer from the old engine. It looked to be in decent shape so I decided to use it.
Long story short, everything went back together fairly easy, filled the radiator back up and took a test drive. Got home and the mystery noise was still there but not as bad.
So moral of the story is..................a 40 year old Jeep gonna make some noise.
I'm going to drive it till it breaks.

Pretty sound advice. If I had a buckle for every strange sound I’ve tried to find, and couldn’t, I’d have a new soft top LOL. Most of mine end up being something stupid. The one serious issue I had, I never heard the first odd noise. Nothing. That was when the bolt securing the distributor gear backed out and pushed its way they the back of the water pump housing, pushing every drop of water into the crank case......... So remember - it’s the noises ya don’t hear that’ll bite ya

Are your belts tight? My power steering pulley is a touch out of whack and one of the belts flops around at idle until everything warms up. Sounds similar to what you're describing.

Yep, belts are tight.
I thought the same thing and even took the belts off for a few seconds and the noise was still there.
I took the old stethoscope out and it sounds like it's coming from inside the timing chain cover. I felt for sure when I took the cover off I would find something going on in there but not a scratch. Timing chain was tight, maybe a little too tight?
Oil pressure is still good so I don't think it is a bearing going bad. The harmonic balancer I put back on looked "pretty good" I should of replaced it with a new one but none were to be found locally.
The noise isn't loud, most people wouldn't even notice it I don't think, but i'm just a little paranoid lol.
Engine has less than a thousand miles on it since the rebuild, so maybe everything is just getting broken in. I'm going to change the oil again in a few days to see if anything looks weird in the old oil.
If the oil looks ok i'm just going to drive it but keep a close eye [ear] on it for anything else unusual.

After setting my timing perfectly last week I drove the Jeep to work yesterday and it ran like bag of chit- cutting up misfires back fires.
After going over it today I noticed a couple of plug boots didn’t snap on when checking the plugs. Appears the clips on 3-4 of them had worked up further in the boot and weren’t clipping on. Was able to work them back down to the rib inside the boot and now they snap on securely and the Jeep runs like a champ.

Still can’t connect the vacuum advance to ported vac without it wanting to stumble once it comes in- May be drilling out a rotor cap to check rotor phasing.

My Jeep made it's maiden voyage to the Mountains today for a little trout fishing. Left the house a little before 5:00 a.m. so I could be there before daylight. About 2 miles into the trip I glanced down at my temp gauge and it was pegged out. I pulled over immediately, popped the hood and the engine was barely warm. Jiggled some wires and the gauge went back to normal. I've got a loose wire somewhere that i'll have to track down. Anywho, after the wire jiggling episode the old boy behaved himself the rest of the trip.
The fishing was a little slow, the river was running high because of all the rain but I did manage to catch 4 nice Rainbows.
It was a good day to be in the Mountains!!

What did you use to lure them in with ?

Been to that area a couple of times in the jeep. Beautiful areas.
I love the Tellico Mountains and fortunately they are only 60 miles from my house. Still over an hours drive with the CJ though lol.
Usually this time of year I have the whole river pretty much to myself but with the Kung flu going around seems everyone is heading to the Mountains.
They do have all the camping areas closed off.
I saw a lot of Jeeps but mine was the only CJ that I know of. And unlike the Mall crawler city Jeeps everyone I saw gave the old Jeep wave.
