What did you do to or with your CJ today?

A few weeks ago while wheeling in Moab, we were approaching a rock ledge and were setting up to crawl down. As I a got a few yards from the ledge, I stepped on the brakes to stop and shift down to low gear. Pedal went all the way to the floor! No brakes at all! Went down the ledge in second gear a lot faster than I would have liked. This happened about a dozen more times throughout the week. Suddenly no brakes at all, even while pumping the pedal, but as soon as I would go over the obstacle, the pedal would return to normal without any pumping at all No leaks, no loss of fluid, MC completely full. All we could come up with was a bad MC. OJL suggested that the MC was getting too hot. So, today the CJ got a new MC, and some insulation on some brake lines that are fairly close to the exhaust manifold.

Were you losing fluid? I had that happen once and the MC was bad and fluid would go into the booster, then into the motor. I swapped the MC and the booster at the same time. But it was really a problem with the mc. Hope your new mc cures it.

I can go down a 45° decline without using the brakes, but the trick is to get the non-synchroed T-18 first gear into granny low when you can't come to a stop!

Were you losing fluid? I had that happen once and the MC was bad and fluid would go into the booster, then into the motor. I swapped the MC and the booster at the same time. But it was really a problem with the mc. Hope your new mc cures it.

No leaks. The MC is completely full. I insulated a few brake lines that are pretty close to the exhaust manifold, but I don't know why this would suddenly be a problem. It's been this way for the past 4 years, and it was in the 50s and 60s in Moab. We have been in Colorado when it was in the 80s with no problems. Hopefully the new MC will do the trick!

Bet the separation seal between the 2 reservoirs is letting fluid pass and not build pressure.

Kind of what I was thinking. Odd thing is, that as soon as I would go just a short distance, the brake pedal would return to normal without any pumping.

Replaced the front passenger side wheel and spindle bearings. It is amazing how easy the job was once I finally got the right tools.

worked on installing the new soft top,my 3 year old helped install the screws that was pretty awesome, also constantly checking for tracking updates on more parts

I like my old fastback top, but I’m looking forward to a new top at some point...

Picked up a Dana 300 that has the 4 to 1 gears in it and a twin stick. Need to figure out a time to i stall it before my next wheeling trip.

Also received a new countour dual fan to install since one of the fans on my current contour set up dies. I will probably swap that out on Saturday.

Finally got around to putting in my new vapor canister. I am convinced the old one was original. I noticed any immediate reduction in fuel smell with the engine running.

Ignore the wiring rat's nest, that's what I am doing until I get around to replacing the complete harness.
