Engine Oil

15/40 is what I've been running for years

An ‘86 with 48k miles? Nice!

You’ll get some different opinions, but I think 10W-30 or 40 is fine and what was intended by AMC back then. Unless you’re gonna drive in the freezing winter, then switch to a 5W-30.

Do you know if you have the Dana 44 rear end that came in the later ‘86?

10W - 30 here.
But in the winter with no top or doors is where the fun is.

you are so right and I missed the opportunity of a lifetime this past January. I’m sure it’s maybe happened and then again maybe not here. We got 9 inches here and my Jeep was down at the time. I missed the chance of a lifetime.

We got snow here in Houston at that same time (a day or two earlier) than you in New Orleans. Had some unusual Jeep fun for our area. Although I must admit, didn't drive around too much on the roads. Just two short trips to my son's and one friend. Did get in some snow fun on my property though.
