Congratulations on getting your CJ on the road.
Nothing like the feeling after all those hours of progress.
Use it every opportunity you have!

Thank you sir - it is a great feeling to finally get to run it around some. However, Wed she decided to throw me another curve. Wouldn’t shut off with the key. Swapped ignition switches with no change. Turned the key off and unplugged the alternator - that shut it off. Appears I’m experiencing some feedback. Common fix is to add a diode to the exciter wire, but to me that’s a bandaid. Had auto parts shop test it and they said it was good. But I’m gonna take it to an alternator shop tomorrow and get them to check the internal diodes. So technically I can drive it, I just can’t turn it off...... Can’t see how it would be the wiring - nothin changed from Tues to Wed......

Just for kicks check the I post at the starter relay, (should be 0v with key off).
Check the resistor wire between the alternator and I post (shouldn't be 12v key on).
Alternator inline diode (should feed back 0v engine running).

I thought it had the resistor wire from the factory to serve the same function as the in line diode

I had to ad a diode on my alternator years ago when I put an MSD box on it, kinda strange when you turn the key off and it just keeps running lol

While I can’t explain why it didn’t manifest itself until now, I may see an issue. When I installed the MSD box I removed (against Lumpy’s theory) unnecessary wiring for the ignition module. According to the wiring diagram, the resistance wire did run to the module, now it does not.

I also managed to find a used tire for a spare yesterday - had it stuck on the extra rim I stole of my Bronco and put it on the carrier. My wife came home, looked at the spare, and asked why I put such a large tire on the spare. I told her it was a Kevlar plate made to look like a spare. She didn’t go for it. So I told her it was the same size as the other 4. Still didn’t go for it. I had to measure em to prove it.

Wait till I try that when she’s cooking......

Can’t decide if I like it better with the tire cover or naked.......

Not hard to tell. BFT

Holy :dung: it looks like a 37” on the spare tire carrier

It measures 31.5 - maybe a shade less. The camera on my phone tends to exaggerate stuff like this. Hmmmmmm......

Oh wow that’s crazy difference in size from what it looks like.... camera adding 10 pounds and 5.5 inches on tires

I always look for the narrowest tire to mount as a spare w/aluminum rim.
No need to carry a wide heavy spare if you don’t have a rear locker or have a selectable locker.
Turns out I got a flat yesterday and used what I had in my bed a stock 2a wheel.
It was a 16x6.50 and the other three 33” 12.50 15” got me home just fine.

I wondered about that. Was always told the spare should be the same diameter as the others. But since I (still) have an open diff I didn’t think the spider gears would mind that much. The 31x10.50 my be a better choice.

What I tried to post this morning but had technical difficulties - it’s hard to see em in this pic, but the shifter knobs look right at home........
